Plot twist: 67 was a mathematically significant number long before it became a meme. Here’s what makes it cool: It is a prime number (can only be divided by itself and 1). But it’s not just ANY prime number. 🧵⬇️

I'm thinking of making my Powerpoint slide-decks publicly available, though I am not sure when I should do this: during the holidays, at the beginning of next term, or later, once people have got back to work? What would you prefer:

Good luck to all those Year 12 resitting Foundation tier GCSE Maths this week - remember, about 10,000 students will achieve Grade 4 or better this time round, so be one of them! Make it the shortest “endless cycle” ever known

@MathsNot When will they realise that it’s not the qualification that’s the problem - it’s the approach to motivation and engagement that works with a nuanced curriculum for that cohort!

I see the “endless treadmill” is now a “demoralising roundabout” “Baroness Smith also said a new qualification would be introduced as an alternative to GCSE resits, helping students who ‘too often have been on this demoralising roundabout of taking exams and failing them’.”

@MathsNot The Guardian reporting on this was particularly disparaging - ‘failure’ and ‘level of resits turned into a crisis’ and ‘grinding experience eroding confidence’ yet 35,000 16+ students achieved Grade 4 in post-16 ed last year…that’s a football stadium worth! Good news for them 😊
