@mr_guindon Congratulations!!! I didn’t know you got in! Can’t wait to hear about it!

End of year project for Geometry. Students can only use construction tools (digital or traditionally). Columbus people will understand #savedthecrew

Chalked a number line from 57" to 74". Students stood on their height line. I took a class photo to show how clustered data affects the way a boxplot looks! #mtbos #statschat

English

@MissDavisSCSD I had my students line up on a number line based on their heights, took a picture then sketched a box and whisker plot over them and asked them what they see, notice and wonder. I saw something like this on twitter, but can’t remember who posted it to credit them!
English

I'm teaching #BoxAndWhisker plots next week to help my #algebra1 students prepare for their #EOC. Any suggestions from the #MTBOS community? #iteachmath #alg1chat #testprep
English

@MrsCookKHS I love that! We’re watching hidden figures right after testing, so that would be a great transition!
English

@harpgirl555 Oooh...I like that! I’ve thought about doing a “copy my construction” activity, but forgot about it! Love it!

@arzzax No, the second one they used 415 as the initial value and used growth instead of decay to work backwards, which makes sense to me but doesn’t give you the same answer
English

@mathwizlizz I'm assuming the second one is meant to be 415=a(1+.12)^6 as opposed to your 415=a(1-.12)^6? They've assumed it's exp growth not decay, so when solving for a it will reduce 415 instead of increasing it.
English

I had an exponential decay problem on my last test where Ss had to solve for initial value. I set it up as 415=a(1-.12)^6. A student set it up as 415(1+.12)^6. Why doesn’t this give you the same answer? #mtbos #iteachmath

@mathgeek76 Mowing your lawn using safety scissors...unnecessarily tedious when lawn mowers exist
English

it always makes me a feel a little 🤢🤢🤢 when I see curriculum give Ss a bunch of data and ask them to graph displays by hand and “do not use a calculator.”
How would you complete this sentence:
Asking students to graph data by hand is like...

@DawnRecentio @KristieDonavan @cmt215il No, I used a Desmos activity! I believe it’s called something about Avi and Benita and it’s the first one in the exponential bundle. Although, that would be a good idea!

For the college interest rates, I had kids look up how much the college they want to go to costs, multiply by 4 and use that as their initial amount!

@mathwizlizz Have any resources to share?? It’s coming up for us and I would love to make it more relevant for my students!

@scitecheducator We did a textbook example of this, but not sure if the date is real. That would be interesting to find an article on it!

@mathwizlizz Don't forget half life of drugs in your system. I like the number play and real life feel of this unit!
