CO2 monitors have become popular tools people can use to estimate their indoor air quality. A new study was recently published that explores how we can use them to optimise occupancy thresholds and identify problem locations. Actual practical science!!! 🧵

Something blue 4 you ❤️❤️❤️ A true blue stunner at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh! The Meconopsis ‘Slieve Donard’ (Himalayan blue poppy) are back in bloom in the Woodland Garden, and they’re absolutely stealing the show with those vibrant petals. One of the most magical sights of the season 💙

Tissue-specific autoantibody signatures reveal immune alterations undetected by routine serology in long COVID 🚨83% of long COVID patients have rogue autoantibodies attacking their own heart, lungs & blood vessels, and every standard blood test misses it completely. VERY INTERESTING! ➡️In a UNIQUE Hungarian cohort of 114 long COVID patients versus 36 pre-pandemic controls, tissue-specific Western blotting detected autoantibodies in 83% of cases, with strong cardiovascular dominance, ➡️Vascular autoreactivity was markedly higher in long COVID (34% vs. 8%, p<0.05), cardiac (54%) and pulmonary (34%) signals trended elevated but did not reach significance( cohort size?), ➡️Autoantibodies were predominantly IgM-skewed, polyreactive (up to 8 bands per patient), and persisted longitudinally (mean 141 days), with new isotypes emerging over time, ➡️Standard ANA testing showed no group differences and zero clinical correlations, rendering it useless for detecting these alterations, ➡️Cardiac autoreactivity associated with hypertension and headache, overall autoreactivity correlated with anosmia/ageusia, female sex, CRP, BMI, creatinine, and troponin levels, ➡️The study used human cardiac, pulmonary, and vascular tissue homogenates. ➡️Findings were independent of routine serology and highlight an under-recognized immune component invisible to current diagnostics. ➡️“This persistent, IgM-skewed profile suggests ongoing immune dysregulation and may reflect a previously underrecognized component of the immunological response in long COVID, highlighting the need for targeted immunodiagnostic approaches beyond routine serology.” ‼️Why this is shocking: It proves that in 83% of long COVID patients, the immune system is actively producing autoantibodies that directly target their own heart, lung, and especially blood-vessel tissues, yet every standard blood test (ANA HEp-2) comes back normal. These rogue antibodies are polyreactive, IgM-dominant, persist for months, and keep evolving. They correlate with real symptoms (anosmia, hypertension, headache) and lab markers of damage (troponin, CRP). ‼️In other words: The majority of long COVID sufferers have smouldering, organ-specific autoimmunity that is completely invisible to routine diagnostics. Doctors are flying blind while patients’ tissues are quietly under autoimmune attack. 🤔As far as I know, this is the first direct evidence of hidden, cardiovascular-dominant tissue autoimmunity driving the chronic L0ngC0vid phase! #BookMark #AvoidSars2 #AvoidReinfections link.springer.com/article/10.100…

Masking on planes is one of the easiest lifestyle changes we could collectively make to halt or slow future pandemics. Vulnerable ppl have to fly for various reasons and have no choice but to be trapped in a tin can w you. You should be home if sick, masked if flying.

Doctor’s appointment today. Receptionist was wearing a surgical mask open at the sides. I gave her sealed 3M Aura and Drager 1950 as we were discussing the protectiveness of surgical masks versus respirators before my appointment. On the way out she was wearing the Drager! We talked about how much more breathable AND protective it is. Much easier to wear for 8 hours. 😷

"Back at the birthday party, a reconstruction of the scene determined that the 1st patient sat at a table within a meter (just over three feet) of several people he infected. However, the man merely crossed paths with another on the way to the bathroom, saying "Hello" as he went"

Yes. Intimate social situation. Not people in the grocery story. But the full scope is always undefined. I can claim that we are aware of every known person to person case, duration and nature and length of contact. We construct mental models based on what we know and change with more data.

@oldfshndanne Why is this so hard? I would hope the goal is to keep anyone else getting infected through the use of proper infection control, N95s, contact tracing, etc. Whether this has pandemic potential should not be the only part of the discussion. What about just saving lives? Exhausting.

I do not agree that Andes Virus requires "close, personal contact," and I think it would be prudent for epidemiologist to push back on that narrative and call for airborne precautions.

Time for me to order some 3M 9210+ Auras again. The authorized 3M vendor with the cheapest price tends to fluctuate all the time, so if a single person happens to care, here is the current pricing for a single box of 20 respirators. Might also generally apply to the more popular 9205+ Aura, but I’d expect some variation, of course. Electronic inventory online - $29.19 Stauffer safety - $29.95 Industrial safety products - $33.31 Zoro - $40.87 Enviro safety products - 41.94 Maxwell products - $42.19 Airgas - $45.47 Motion industries - $49.94 (sold individually) Accurate safety - $56.12 (sold individually) Only sell cases of 240: JAM industrial supply Pack-N-Tape DigiKey Strobels supply Magellan EGC supply

When I was in the hospital, they ran a CT scan on my chest to look at the cracked rib. That scan found ground-glass opacities in my lungs. The pulmonologist didn't really know what to make of it, but I'm familiar enough with the literature on this that I recalled the exact papers: these have been found in otherwise healthy people years after a COVID infection. It's not PEM. It's not fatigue. It's not a symptom on some checklist or survey dolled out by some academic who has been wasting funds for the last 15 years with nothing to show for it. It's organ damage. Try absorbing that into the IACC framework. Try staging it on a five-point ME/CFS severity scale. Try treating it with pacing and LDN. Try telling the doctor who put a tube in my chest that this is the same condition as post-EBV fatigue. This is why the conflation matters. When Long COVID gets absorbed into a symptom-based chronic illness framework, the vascular damage disappears. The cardiac injury disappears. The lung fibrosis disappears. The strokes disappear. What remains is "fatigue and brain fog," vague symptoms that seemingly demand nothing from anyone in power.

Not true. I have MCAS. Speaking my truth. Not fear mongering
Rae Carson@raecarson

@DiaryofaSickGrl Direct contact is required for anaphylaxis of aerosolized perfume (spraying directly into the breathing passages or onto an open wound, frex). I acknowledge that wearing strong/too much perfume can cause deep discomfort for others, but fear mongering is not the answer.

My great uncle has died after contracting hospital acquired pneumonia leading to congestive heart failure. And people say ‘oh, well he was in his nineties and already unwell…’ When will we start cleaning the air, masking and giving a shit?

You can also get very nicely made Aura covers by Love the Look. love-the-look.com I wore one to the last wedding I went to. The solid cloth ones do reduce the breathability of the mask a bit, about 12% on the one I tested, YMMV. I was still able to pass a fit test with the cover over the Aura. Love the Look now make lace / mesh covers which should have a more minimal effect on breathability.
