@matsonj I feel like this fits in. I've been conceptualizing "root nodes" as like AWS, in that it owns the servers, or Snowflake, because it can fit all your data.
But this makes me wonder if a network is a different node type or essentially "irreducable infra"

Agents won't vibe-code a new Slack every time they need to communicate. They'll use the same Slack because the other agent's team also uses Slack. Traditional SaaS will survive because standards don't get disrupted by probabilistic code generation. Network effects and standardization still matter.

good marketing is out fundamentally "out of distribution". I don't think this generation of AI will solve it any time soon

3 truth's that will be obvious in 6 months: 1. People will still buy software. Building / maintaining everything is annoying / expensive 2. Good product design and marketing is hard and no amount of easiness to build will change that. 3. Authenticity / in-person always wins

@creatine_cycle This guy just logged of completely you must respect it

@AlexNoonan6 there is a very prescient quote from the departed that sums up my thoughts

@teej_m ok this may be true but i feel like you could complete lots of sentences with "is why google invented mapreduce in 2004"

@MatanHalevy @GregorStocks @thinkingshivers We should set it up and see if it’s interesting. I never did a full run bc of $$
English

@GregorStocks @MatanHalevy @thinkingshivers but yeah someone should steal it and run it!

@JamesTimmins yeah i agree - i call this notion "durable primitives"

Oh right, I forget other people aren't in my head.
My framing is that SaaS/data is a multi-layered tree with infrastructure providers at the top and direct interfaces with end users at the bottom. IMO those two layers will persist, but then all interior nodes will get compressed and have to fight it out by either consuming other layers around them or moving to either the root or the leaves.

@nicoritschel @tayloramurphy yeah i'm using github for this (as i assume many are lol)
English

@matsonj @tayloramurphy Keeping a todo list and being religious about adding to it to the point where it’s annoying can help a bit

I'm like a 6.5

What's your AI adoption level? (according to Steve Yegge)
English

@SurrealistShip a part of the reason i moved back to WA from CA was tax arb, and the writing is on the wall now...
English

@matsonj It's easier politically to add taxes on the rich than admit the budget needs some trimming
