Could not agree more. I churned out a pile of crappy pages taller than @richardosman before I wrote a publishable one. Maybe everyone has a good novel in them but it’s usually buried under 3 or 4 terrible ones. And unfortunately you have to get those ones out first.

I started so many novels when I was younger, but I'm very glad I was nearly 50 when I committed myself to it. Age brings a bit of wisdom and perspective and lived experience. I know lots of agents feel the same. 50 is a VERY GOOD age to write a novel. Go for it!

This one’s been a long haul but I just hit save on a complete first draft. The story has ended - OR HAS IT? Properly excited about this one; though it needs a serious kicking in the edit.

@DanRebellato @Poppy_Corbett I was in Hamlet at the Royal Court in 1980 and I once asked about the lack of a prompter when I watched some of the show from prompt corner. I was told the DSM did it, even then. The RC is a smaller theatre though so maybe it’s a question of scale?

Tbh I have more in common with the political and media classes but I still stand with the striking workers. We need solidarity not false dividing lines and for once I think the majority of people are getting that.
