listening to more previews of armored core point out it’s short 90 second missions as a negative, which is so fascinating because that is pure armored core. welcome to the real armored core. here’s how you can frame your mindset: this isn’t an action adventure. it’s more like a fighting game. you wouldn’t complain that street fighter 6 matches last “only 90 seconds.” armored core is about short bursts of gameplay even in multiplayer. think how fast a souls pvp match lasts. that’s closer to the armored core loop.

In my first ever job, I was so bored me & the other intern got into a game of "email chicken": you send an email to the CEO with subject "you're a fucking cunt", wait 10 seconds and then recall it in Outlook. We gradually upped the time, until one day the other guy got sacked

Seeing a lot of misinfo that the X logo was taken from a Unicode character; not true sadly. I hate to say it but it’s actually quite well designed, let me break down why 🧵 (1/X)

Christopher Nolan says he will 'absolutely' not start developing another film until the Hollywood strikes are resolved "it is a very key moment in the relationship between working people and Hollywood. This is not about me, this is not about the stars of my film. This is about jobbing actors, this is about staff writers on television shows trying to raise a family, trying to keep food on the table" (via @BBC)

U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt was having a portrait painted of himself by a watercolor artist on April 12, 1945, when he complained of a headache and subsequently collapsed. The President, who had suffered a stroke, died later that day. The Unfinished Portrait captures his last waking moments.

The B-17 ball turret gunner was a subject of American poet Randall Jarrell's poem titled "The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner," published in 1945. The poem goes as follows: "From my mother's sleep I fell into the State, And I hunched in its belly till my wet fur froze. Six miles from earth, loosed from its dream of life, I woke to black flak and the nightmare fighters. When I died they washed me out of the turret with a hose." In 1942, Jarrell enlisted in the United States Army Air Forces, initially as a flying cadet and later becoming a celestial navigation tower operator. He provided the following explanation: "A ball turret was a Plexiglas sphere set into the belly of a B-17 or B-24, and it housed two .50 caliber machine guns and one man, a short small man. When this gunner tracked a fighter attacking his bomber from below with his machine guns, he rotated with the turret, hunched upside-down in his little sphere, resembling a fetus in the womb. The fighters that attacked him were equipped with cannons that fired explosive shells. The hose mentioned in the poem referred to a steam hose."

I'll tell anyone, factory jobs on night shift don't mean drink a ton of energy drinks, sodas, and intake a bunch of sugary snacks to stay awake. I got air lifted to the hospital last night cause my heart tried to exit this world early. So with that being said, I'm gonna shake back. And I'm gonna regain control of my life. I have a mini me that needs me here if I don't live for any other purpose.

In 1997, 14-year-old Michael Carnal started a shooting rampage at Heath High School in Kentucky. Upon arrival, he inserted earbuds and, with a pistol from his backpack, fired 8 rounds at a prayer group that was sitting outside of the school, killing 3 girls and injuring 5 others. After he was finished, Carneal placed his pistol on the ground and surrendered to the school principal, Bill Bond. After dropping the gun, Carneal said to a surviving member of the prayer group: "Kill me, please. I can't believe I did that." Michael was diagnosed with schizophrenia and sentenced to life imprisonment with the possibility of parole in 25 years. In 2022 he was denied parole.

@historyinmemes The historical details in this post seem a bit off. It was Louis XVI who was king of France in 1792 and it is not the early 17th century. But I agree that the statue it is a masterpiece.

The Lion Monument in Lucerne, Switzerland has a fascinating backstory. In the early 17th century, a regiment of Swiss mercenaries served as part of the Royal Household of France. During August 1792, approximately 1,000 Swiss guardsmen were entrusted with protecting the life of King Louis VI. Unfortunately, revolutionaries stormed the King's residence, defended by the Swiss, resulting in a virtual massacre of the Swiss Guard. Among the guards was officer Karl Pfyffer von Altishofen, who happened to be on leave in Lucerne on that fateful day. Devastated by the tragic loss of his comrades-in-arms, Karl Pfyffer von Altishofen spent years contemplating their sacrifice and decided to initiate the creation of a monument to honor the fallen men. The monument was designed by the renowned Danish artist Bertel Thorvaldsen and consists of a giant dying lion carved out of sandstone. It is situated above a pond at the periphery of the medieval town. The monument was completed in just over a year and was unveiled in 1821. Today, the Lion Monument attracts over 1.4 million tourists annually. Its profound impact on visitors is exemplified by Mark Twain, who once described it as "the most mournful and moving piece of stone in the world."
