For all Knicks and Giants fans. This is what I’m attempting: Knicks at 7pm - watch the first half or as close to it as possible. Then pause. Switch to NFL draft. Try to make it to pick 5. Then pause. At this point put the phone away. Use as much discipline as possible. I can do it. Back to the Knicks 3rd qt. Then pause. Back to draft. Fast forward all commercials and banter I don’t care about. Back to finish of the Knicks. Back to the rest of the 1st round. Put the phone away. You can do it.

@JamesPalmerTV This is top 10 pick. It should affect the franchise over the next 5 to 10 years. Can't really base that decision on how it impacts the first few weeks of this season.

This is an OUTSTANDING take from Steve Smith Sr. from our “89” final WR big board episode. Steve makes a great case why the #Giants, if they go WR, should take Carnell Tate over Jordyn Tyson. Haven’t heard this angle before.

@JoeBanner13 Not sure where you're tweeting from, but it's also because he's an A+ player and there aren't many in this Draft. There's no Garrett, Pace, or Hutchinson in this Draft. And the O Line - as many holes as there are - doesn't have necessarily the can't miss prospect. Hope that helps

The thought that someone would say that a team should pick a particular player because “their current standing in current NFL conversation” is shocking. Yesterday it was to enhance jersey sales.
Peter Schrager@PSchrags

20-25 teams, no, I couldn't make a great case for taking a running back 3rd overall. The Arizona Cardinals, with their salary cap space (good), their standing in the NFC West (bad), and their current place in the daily NFL conversation (N/A) -- 👍🏻

@NYNJHarper No need to get him because we spent that money on Jorge Polanco. Jorge's never healthy and only produces when his contract is running out and he has the number for steroid dealer handy.

Is it too soon to ask why Stearns didn't pursue Murakami as FA? Has 10 HRs for White Sox, .404 OB, though 32 K's is something to watch. Seemingly would have provided Alonso-type power at 1B on short-term deal (2 yrs, $34 mil) at age 26 that fit the Stearns checklist.

@notthefakeSVP @lukeskywalka11 For the players to have buy outs they would have to have multi-year agreements. Other than a couple of quarterbacks I'm not aware of too many multi-year deals for college players.

They have buyouts. Players should too. Any examples of coaches who coached at four schools in four years? Because there’s a long list of players who have. Curious about this -Don’t you benefit from being part of a brotherhood with a place to go back to ? I just don’t see how the true mercenary route ends up being a lifetime win. I’m all for players maxing out earning power though.

Coaches are doing whatever they want so why not the players? Kiffin? Will wade? But let’s stop the players from chasing their money in the short window they have?? Capping players money just because ain’t it. Im all for Contracts with buyouts

@PSchrags @ProFootballTalk Hey Pete, thank you for fighting this fight for sane people who would like to watch the draft and be able to monitor the chatter on Twitter. It's a lost cause but you're a good dude.

@ProFootballTalk Perfectly written. No phone is easiest way to avoid but you miss the convo. I've always said to enjoy the suspense - but I also used to dress up for Draft Day and have a big board when I was 12.

@SethDavisHoops Good job, Seth. Excellent response. Sometimes people poop on things because they have changed but they fail to acknowledge that maybe they changed for the better? Definitely better for the players and maybe just takes the rest of us some time to get used to it.

The reason we have unlimited free agency is because in 2023 the NCAA denied a waiver to a basketball player at West Virginia. With the school's encouragement and support, the state AG recruited a dozen other states plus the US Dept of Justice to mount a legal assault on the transfer rule. That forced the NCAA to pass a new rule allowing players to transfer as often as they want without having to sit out. The reason we have zero salary cap is because despite many years of expensive legal wrangling to produce the House settlement, schools and coaches are basically operating as if it never happened. The CSC and NIL Go might as well be canasta clubs. It's a money laundering shell game with no enforcement and no proper scrutiny. The very same people who complain the loudest about the system are the ones who created it. As for a union and collective bargaining, not only is that legally improbable and logistically unfeasible, but the players have no incentive to create a CBA which would limit their freedom of movement and/or compensation. Players are making a killing off the current setup, which simply requires the NCAA to follow the law as it is currently written. Why would they want a CBA? And why is it a problem for so many people that players are finally benefiting from the exponential growth and profitability of this sport? Meanwhile, within the last few days at least three players, including two projected lottery picks, turned down the NBA to come back to college. Dozens of quality Euros are also playing in college. Rick Pitino and many others say the quality of play is better than it has been in decades. Coaches salaries are going up, players are finally making what they're worth, and TV ratings are through the roof. And now college hoops has legit free agency, which means many people are paying close attention to the sport at a time when they otherwise wouldn't. To call this "a great plan" is to suggest that all of this was planned. It was not. This is a full-scale disruption, and it was long overdue. Messy, chaotic, confusing and dizzying, yes, but on balance a much better system than the one it replaced IMHO.

@geoffschwartz What kind of sick maniac tells the catcher to fire the ball at the head of the batter in order to get an interference call which the moronic umpire actually enforced? Watching that clip just makes me sad.

@oneshiningmets He's really not a damn good hitter. He's often injured and he had a cano/profar like spike in his mid thirties when his contract was up. Buyer beware.

A not discussed enough part of this horrendous start has been Jorge Polanco not being able to play. He is a damn good hitter and they were really counting on him as a middle of the order bat. Obviously placing that much faith in an injury prone guy is another convo.

Saturday in Happy Valley@SaturdayinHV·
Tomorrow at 7:30PM Will Mencl makes his decision. Oregon. Auburn. Penn State. The number one quarterback in the 2027 class per Rivals. Penn State has been in his final group since the new staff arrived. Taylor Mouser grew up in Chandler. He knows Mencl's head coach personally. Campbell visited him. Mencl visited Happy Valley and left saying the relationship keeps growing. Oregon has held the momentum at various points. Dan Lanning has built the Ducks into a quarterback destination Bo Nix. Dillon Gabriel. An undefeated regular season and a College Football Playoff berth. Here is what tomorrow's decision actually means for Penn State beyond the obvious. Penn State has no committed quarterback in the 2027 class. Rocco Becht is a one-year bridge. This is the most important recruiting decision of the Campbell era so far. Tomorrow. Watch with us. We Are. 🦁

Ran through a quick mock draft simulator (ProFootballFocus). Came up with a pretty realistic one to start (Mendoza, Bailey, Love, Styles). At No. 5, Caleb Downs. A mainstay, stabilizing force for John Harbaugh's backend. At No. 10: Jordyn Tyson. A legit big-play wideout and weapon for Jaxson Dart. The #Giants have a huge chance here to truly reshape roster.
