Album of the day. Prince never played shit safe. From the start, his first single was provoactively titled "Soft and Wet," he made a song called "Bambi," and he posed nude atop of a flying unicorn on the back cover of his self-titled second album. Although his 1978 debut, For You and 1979's Prince were fine showcases of well-written and performed pop and R&B from a young one-man band dynamo, Prince pulled no punches on his risqué third album, 1980's Dirty Mind. Released 45 years ago today, the recordings heard on the album were initially intended only as demos, but Prince realized that the frankness and rawness he had been seeking in his music had already been captured. In its half-hour running time, Prince, with his astounding falsetto, brisked through a spectrum of raunchiness that ranged from hornily suggestive (the libido-powered title track and the liberatory, free-love jam "Uptown") to romantically wounded (the regretful, post-break-up obssessions in "When You Were Mine" and the lovelorn "Gotta Broken Heart Again") to fearlessly graphic (the late-album two-fer of the scandalous "Head" and the frantic incest tale "Sister"). Of course, it's the stripped-down grit and genre-blending of Dirty Mind's music that has endured the most—the throbbing Oberheim synthesizer of the opening title track to the bristling new wave of "When You Were Mine" to the tough mininalist funk in "Head," and the jangling guitar-laden punk in "Sister." Simply put, Dirty Mind marked a pivotal turning point for Prince, where he moved from a coy heartthrob R&B prodigy to a crossover critical favorite that was poised to shake things up, even if it meant rocking nothing more than black bikini underwear, thigh-high boots, and an overcoat. It was a sign of things to come in a career that would be filled with many more interesting turns.

I think dynamic pricing (aka ripping off fans) can only happen if a band agrees, if so, what Oasis have done to their fans is unforgivable. They became the touts. After 5 hrs it’s lose out completely or pay up to 10x the cost. No excuse for men from working class roots to do this

@LalaEscarzega I’ve always wondered why the investigators couldn’t determine who gave Prince laced with fentanyl Vicodin pills. It was definitely someone he knew that brought Prince street drugs instead of prescribed medication. Prince’s folks know who it was.

They can charge 5 people in connection to the death of Matthew Perry, but nobody is charged for Princes passing? I’ll never get over the lack of accountability or investigation. Smh. There are people out there who know and are responsible.
