@Velvet_Calamity @CoryBMorgan And that is what the Alberta separation group is doing….getting a clear majority lol and they wouldn’t repeal something put in the first place to prevent provinces from leaving soo easily. Might as well bet on Quebec leaving next lmao

Simple. The Federal government of Canada, now a majority, can amend or even repeal the Clarity Act. Because it is regular federal legislation rather than a part of the formal Constitution, it follows the standard legislative process. What is the Clarity act? The Clarity Act (formally Bill C-20) is Canadian federal legislation enacted in 2000—not 1988—that establishes the conditions for the federal government to negotiate a province's secession, following the 1995 Quebec referendum. It ensures that secession negotiations can only occur if a referendum question is deemed "clear" and a "clear majority" votes to leave.

@Velvet_Calamity @CoryBMorgan LOL. I literally said all those things. The US would 10000% use this as their own leverage and Canada would have to negotiate. All you’re saying is that the possibilities of outcomes will take longer than what you are comfortable with. I highly doubt anyone in favor of leav cares

Incorrect. Ottawa and the other provinces have to negotiate in good faith, as that is part of the process, if and when a province like Alberta, enters into a separation framed referendum - that is successful. They (Ottawa and the other provinces), plus other proponents (first nations) don't have to accept anything from Alberta in a successful separation referendum. Alternatively, they could drag this out for years. The negotiation between Alberta and the rest of Canada will take years to complete - if the result is a successful separation. It isn't an immediate/ quick process. Now, Alberta could go it alone and say fuck you Ottawa and leave - which would likely come to Alberta asking for international recognition - which isn't a full proof avenue in itself. Alberta could ask the United States for international recognition - at which point - that puts a conflict between the United States and Canada.

@Velvet_Calamity @CoryBMorgan Also, please tell us about what other mechanisms are being put in place on preventing us to leave? The court injunction is fugazi and wont last long as FNs cannot withhold the referendum when they are still within their own right to stay connected to the Federal gov

The Alberta independence could raise 50% and it wouldn't matter as there are mechanisms in place or being put into place to stop it at all costs. The gathering of signatures has had legal intervention, in stopping it from happening. In April 2026, the Court of King's Bench of Alberta intervened in the process of a citizen-led petition for provincial separation, imposing a pause on the validation of signatures while evaluating constitutional challenges brought by First Nations. The Federal government, now with a majority government, will stop at nothing - at stopping this referendum and further more - do whatever it has to do - to stop Alberta separation. They say that, Ottawa, and the other provinces have to act in good faith in this process.. Can we really expect that - that will happen.

I'm pretty sure Matt Jeneroux, who lied and misled his constituents during the last election, hasn't shown up for work ONE TIME since November, and hasn't even bothered to cast a vote. At the very least, he should reimburse taxpayers the $50K+ he's taken without doing any work.

@ArfinNathaniel Why not? Are you the one dealing with criminals that face zero consequences? Do you put your life on the line knowing crime is up and the same criminals you fought to keep out of our streets get to go back without bail? No. They’re sick and tired and they deserve better.
