Ibrahim Ambwere is one of Kenya’s most fascinating self-made billionaires, famously remembered for offering to pay teachers’ delayed salaries worth KSh 48 million during the 1980s strike — an amount now equivalent to billions of shillings. Born in 1936 in Chavakali, Vihiga, Ambwere endured a painful childhood after losing both parents at a young age. Raised by his grandmother and lacking formal education, he worked in farms and odd jobs from childhood to support his siblings. His fortunes changed after meeting Indian mason Karam Singh, who employed and trained him in masonry and carpentry. Ambwere worked for Singh for ten years, mastering valuable skills before receiving tools, skills, and KSh 3,000 from his employer as independence-era foreigners exited Kenya. Using only KSh 38 and a toolbox, he started a carpentry business in Chavakali and later secured a breakthrough contract from Kaimosi Hospital. Despite being illiterate in his early years, Ambwere hired a private tutor in the 1970s and learned to read, write, and speak English within four years. Grateful for the transformation, he gifted his teacher a house, saying teachers were special. Ambwere later expanded his empire across Nairobi, Kisumu, Kakamega, Kitale, and other towns, building major properties including Ambwere Plaza, Ambwere Towers, and Ambwere Complex. His offer to settle teachers’ salaries during Moi’s era shocked the nation and even triggered government investigations into his wealth. Though he has never publicly declared his net worth, many regard him as one of Western Kenya’s wealthiest businessmen.

#Senegal’s ruling party, PASTEF/Les Patriotes led by National Assembly President Ousmane Sonko now sets a raft of conditions for President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, after he initiated consultations ahead of forming a new government. The majority party says it is willing to support President Faye "within the framework of sincere and responsible cooperation, in implementing public policies". But "the cooperation must be based on clear programmatic guidelines", in particular: — A commitment to remaining faithful to the agenda on which the party was elected in power in 2024. —Clarification of the outlook for managing sovereign debt. —Blocking measures that'd increase the cost of living. —Continuing the renegotiation of strategic contracts. —Fighting corruption and monitoring opaque funds. —Handling of judicial matters. —The structure, allocation and distribution of ministerial portfolios. Discourages President Faye from approaching individual members of the party for consultations in the formation of the new government, “therefore, any party member who attends these consultations will be acting in a personal capacity.” "These discussions must take place not individually with party members, but with the party’s duly authorized institutional body," the ruling party adds in a statement.

You can’t be cancelling Ombachi and Bien over standards and accountability, then turn around and blindly support a “united opposition” filled with the same old political baggage. That contradiction is absurd. You cannot demand integrity, discipline, and moral consistency from artists and public figures, yet completely suspend those standards when it comes to the people seeking power over millions. Hold your leaders to the same standard you expect from everyone else, otherwise it’s not principle, don’t use emotions to think.

@Honeyfarsafi For those of us who are setting up a new path, this election does not even define our ambition for a greater Kenya, each generation must choose, follow your father's and mothers or create your own way,

lol. We have one year to the general elections. I need you people to get out of your social media bubbles. Ruto is literally assembling even the RSF having a united opposition is the least Maraga can do. I repeat, Kenyan politics is devoid of ideological alignment and we cannot fix that in one year even if some things have changed. We are not even organizing to get young competent leaders in parliament we don’t have time
James@MrJamesKe

The reason you think Maraga needs Gachagua and his allies to win is because you’ve been conditioned to believe that these political figures must always dictate where your vote goes. Loyalty to individuals has replaced independent judgment. That’s why it feels difficult for you to imagine a different path, one where Maraga doesn’t rely on political kingpins, but on the people themselves. In reality, it is the voters who hold the real power, not the politicians.

The illusion of replacing leaders 2002: “We just need to replace Moi.” Nobody cared about fixing the system. 2007: “We just need to replace Kibaki.” No talk of systemic change 2022: “We just need to replace Uhuru.” Infact vote Ruto to punish Uhuru 2027: “We just need to replace Ruto.” Same illusion. Anyone but Ruto! 2032: “We just need to replace whoever” A broken system eventually reproduces the same outcomes, no matter who sits at the top. Can we discuss how we can reform the broken system atleast?

@amenya_nelson Lets not try to fix a broken system, we must build our own future, rewrite the constitution in our own way with more inclusiveness, change education, health,.....eg a primary school teacher should have a degree with upper class in the subject they teach .
