@JeremyVineOn5 There are no benches blocking paths, maybe if you are walking 2 or 3 people side by side and think moving over briefly is an onerous task.

We're discussing whether we have too many memorial benches. Hartlepool Borough Council is pausing applications. It says the area has become "overwhelmed" with them, causing obstructions for wheelchairs and prams and making it difficult to clean paths.

Spot on. We’ve come to fetishise “local representatives” far too much, a symptom of our politics becoming smaller and more parochial. What we need is quality national politicians. If they have to be “parachuted” in, and they spend more time in SW1 than the constituency, so be it.

@TheBritishIntel We used to have a dog license requirement until the 80s (?). In UK it’s a legal requirement to have your dog microchipped anyway, with details on a registered database. So a new licence system would be bonkers on top of the current microchip system.

The BBC licence tax is to rise to £180 from April 1, a whopping £15 a month you must pay or go to jail. I trust Farage and Badenoch will promise in their election manifestos they will bring in subscription. I imagine 50% will save themselves that £180 a year forever.
