If Twitter dies, something that could have been - that was - incredible dies. Because one man had too much money and no clue. Let this be a lesson to future generations on how not to behave when you take over a company. @mathw@hachyderm.io @mattwaltonprintmaker on Instagram

@TheNorfolkLion @campbellclaret @Nigel_Farage If Farage had been doing the negotiations we'd have had a no deal exit and things would be even worse. He's got not the slightest diplomatic ability nor the knowledge to handle anything remotely that complex.

@ImSpartacus18 @gabithelibra A lot of Democrats claim they do. I've spoken to them, and they've told me how paying more in taxes is good because it helps poor people. I'm not joking.

NEW: Cabinet Secretary Simon Case thought Liz Truss’s mini budget “economically illiterate” and her “completely mad”. Her aides thought her “psychologically unfit to be PM”. Read the extract from OUT published this week: thetimes.com/article/cdf8ec…

@larrylemonmaths @ShippersUnbound Realising growth is everything, Truss attempted a load of policies which anybody with a passing knowledge of economics could have told her wouldn't promote growth. That's what the markets react to, because tax cuts for the rich and rampant borrowing to fund it never worked.

@larrylemonmaths @ShippersUnbound She also completely failed to offer any policies which would promote growth, as the market reactions show. And before you dismiss them as establishment forces again, let's be clear - the markets are how that economic growth happens and they must believe in you to do it.

@I9Form85331 @stengel And that is why we all hate the government - at many points in history it's not the one the majority of us voted for. We voted for three or four different ones we didn't get. A government which respects this can win people over. Trump of course won't even bother to try.

@I9Form85331 @stengel We had it in the UK where Boris Johnson took the Conservatives to a massive majority in Parliament despite winning just over 40% of the vote overall, because they won so many seats by a narrow margin. Then Labour did it right back earlier this year.

Trump has fallen below 50% in the popular vote. His margin of victory (pop vote + electoral college) is the third smallest since 1888. (Only JFK in '60 and Nixon in '68 were smaller.) If 238k votes in the blue wall states had been different, he would have lost. Not a mandate.

@Legion_Cool @JohnJCrace I thought RFK Jr was an absolute moron who doesn't have the faintest acquaintance with simple concepts like "evidence" and wants to abolish vaccines. Sure, he'll raise food standards while he's killing children, absolutely.

@JohnJCrace The UK does NOT need to choose. It has a trade deal with the EU, it can ALSO have a trade deal with the US. How those agreements should evolve should be decided by the market. For starters RFK JRs plans could mean the US will be making food to higher standards, so why not.

@SMHonk1983 @Plandemic3Movie Such a suppressed positive message Trump himself only spoke hate. Or maybe it was the bits where he degenerated into incoherence? How can you celebrate that man? How can you look at him and say yes, he should be President? He's already shown he's not good at the job once.

Donald Trump's plan to stop the chemical, physical and emotional mutilation of America's youth. 1. "Revoke Joe Biden's cruel policies on so-called gender-affirming care." 2. "Sign a new executive order instructing every federal agency to cease all programs that promote the concept of s*x and gender transition at any age." 3. "Ask Congress to permanently stop federal taxpayer dollars from being used to promote or pay for these procedures and pass a law prohibiting child s*xual mutilation in all 50 states." 4. "Declare that any hospital or healthcare provider that participates in the chemical or physical mutilation of minor youth will no longer meet federal health and safety standards for Medicaid and Medicare and will be terminated from the program immediately." 5. "Support the creation of a private right of action for victims to sue doctors who have unforgivably performed these procedures on minor children." 6. "The DOJ will investigate big pharma and the big hospital networks to determine whether they have deliberately covered up horrific long-term side effects of s*x transitions in order to get rich at the expense of vulnerable patients." 7. "Investigate whether big pharma or others have illegally marketed hormones and puberty blockers, which are in no way licensed or approved for this use." 8. "Inform states and school districts that if any teacher or school official suggests to a child that they could be trapped in the wrong body, they will be faced with severe consequences." 9. "Promote positive education about the nuclear family, the roles of mothers and fathers, and celebrating rather than erasing the things that make men and women different and unique." 10. "Ask Congress to pass a bill establishing that the only genders recognized by the United States government are male and female, and they are assigned at birth." 11. "Protect the rights of parents from being forced to allow their minor child to assume a gender which is new and an identity without the parent's consent."

Further fracturing European stability is obviously a Putin dream & a long-term tragedy but what should Starmer do in the short term if it enhances the U.K.’s position? I wish more of our media was mature enough to understand & explore this stuff. There will be a lot more of it.

I can confirm from a Trump source that a special US deal for UK is under consideration. Trump feels that neither Tory nor Labour governments have made anything of Brexit. No Singapore in the Atlantic etc. So he will set a test, pulling UK further from EU alignment. Over to you, Keir!

Charles Grant@CER_Grant

Maybe. But one senior UK diplomat sees an alternative scenario. Trump hates the EU but quite likes the UK. He could offer the Brits a privileged position (fewer tariffs?) in Europe so long as they differentiate themselves from the EU - and don't line up closely with it. /5
