You're probably aware that exposure to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (#PFAS) has been linked with various #cancers. "This is the first ecological study that examined PFAS exposure in contaminated US drinking water and various cancer risks." nature.com/articles/s4137…

The energy transition does not need to be a zero-sum game! We can cater to multiple justice perspectives, but that needs work. Read my piece (which builds on my research) with @EHNewsroom to learn how! #justtransitions #EnvironmentalJustice #CLCPA #CEJA

80-Minute Sleep Loss in Teens Exposed to “Forever Chemicals” Exposure to "forever chemicals" (PFAS) is linked to disrupted sleep patterns in young adults. Researchers found that individuals with higher levels of specific PFAS in their blood experienced shorter sleep durations and lower sleep quality. The study identified four types of PFAS, including PFOS and PFOA, which were associated with less sleep and trouble falling or staying asleep. These chemicals, used in various consumer products, persist in the environment and human bodies for decades. The researchers also discovered that PFAS may interfere with sleep-related genes, particularly those regulating cortisol, a hormone that affects sleep-wake cycles. The findings suggest that PFAS could have immediate health impacts by affecting daily sleep quality.
