@pulpmx listing to show right now… not everyone enjoys the bland vanilla flavor of Ryan Dungey. I am love the entertainment of Jason Lawrence back in the day and Deegan today. I just hope deegans career goes different than J-laws.

@ndosenbach and I founded @TuringMedical to turn two decades of advanced MRI collaboration and friendship into real-world impact. We handed the keys over to the incredible team @TuringMedical and they are bringing that vision to life. Huge congrats on reaching this milestone! 👇🏾

Neuroscientists should closely follow the mechanistic interpretability efforts in AI and the debates around it, if they’re not already. Eg see how much the example below (+ the whole thread) is relevant to causal manipulation experiments in the brain.
Aaron Mueller@amuuueller

Second big issue: if there are multiple causes of the same effect, it would be very easy to miss both of them if we only ablate one at a time. A related concept is preemption: one cause prevents another from having any effect, and so we miss the preempted cause.

Basically, in a closely divided country, Dems have to win by 3+ points every four years, and 3+ points is a HUGE margin. If they only win by 2, ah well too bad. The minority gets to rule. Whoopsie!

I’m in the beginning stages of planning a 3-4 week trip to Europe to see some sights. Previously, I’ve visited Brussels, Belgium, most of England, Geneva, Switzerland, and Barcelona, Spain. Rome will most likely be our first stop. If you have any suggestions on where to go next, I’d love to hear them.

Biden is a real statesman who cares about his country. Would that the Republican party also have been able to make a similar decision, so as to give the USA a choice between two capable leaders.

@hakwanlau @KordingLab That's fair, I guess I just have more appetite for more creative narratives around results. People can look at the results and interpret as they see fit. Would be interesting to see if things like motocross, nude bungee jumping 😂 have similar effects

@KordingLab @max_bertolero actually i’m not so sure even about the correlation. do we know that the said loss of sense of self follows exactly the time course of lasting a few weeks *& then* gone? makes me wonder if bungee jumping naked will cause some *resting state* brain effects lasting weeks after too

Can't not comment. The statement of "desynchronization" is correct. The implication that this causes the sense of self is a conjecture not supported by data. The return to baseline is correct. A reset of circuits critical to the sense of self is just conjecture.
Joshua Siegel@realJoshSiegel

After a high dose of psilocybin, the brain desynchronizes at a massive scale, causing loss of our sense of self, time, and space. This may drive the burst of plasticity caused by psychedelics. The next day, brain activity has largely returned to normal, but an echo remains – a reset of circuits critical to the sense of self. Our study is out today in @Nature nature.com/articles/s4158…

I’m biased so let’s be transparent on this. That said, Biden is not doing his party any favors here. He’s not helping America in any way, shape, or form that I can gather. Father Time is coming for us all. Imagine what this decline looks like in 4 years.

@Jason66Thomas @novogratz it's wild, all they have do to is throw a 55-65 year old centrist up there who loves America and democracy, and they win. dems can never get out of their own way...

@novogratz What do you suggest? It doesn't seem like they are going to have a move whatsoever. Biden dug in, time moving ever faster.

Let’s remember Kamala was in 6th place in the 2020 primaries before she dropped out. Just because she was a strategic pick for Biden doesn’t mean she deserves or is owed the nomination. It is imperative that the Democratic Party quickly set up a fast and fair process to replace candidate Biden. America deserves at least this much! Happy 4th!

Question for folks who eloped (whether or not you had a reception after): What did you love about your elopement? What do you wish you had done differently? Do you have any regrets about your decision?

@jacasiegel We just did parents and siblings (and dog), in the courtyard area of my parents' NYC apartment building, then went to a nice dinner after. Best thing we did was hire a photographer to come take pictures. You want nice pictures.
