FIRE THREAT persists. Extinguishers and chisel plows on standby again today. IN farmer I know put out a fire yesterday…this friend in NW Ohio wasn’t as lucky.

The Melton Running Rabbit could be seen on their trucks and driver uniforms up until at least the 80’s. I think they also ran commercials looking for drivers on the overnight trucker radio shows.

Some people I knew on Chicago’s north side had to aim their antennas away from the Hancock and Sears towers because the reflection of the signals was so bad.

@jhstone75 Rabbit ears came back with digital tv.

@maxarmstrong Ours had a rotator and on a good day we could get 3-4 more stations. And you had to get up to change the channel on the old Magnavox TV. It was an improvement over the rabbit ears wrapped in aluminum foil.

@maxarmstrong Yes. In the summertime, we could get Des Moines, Omaha and Quad Cities stations, too. Ten miles from Minnesota and 50 from Wisconsin, right in the middle of three viewing areas.

@maxarmstrong Four if it was pointed south-southeast; a different four if it was pointed north-northwest, and two or three if it was pointed northeast. All in black and white until 1974.

@jhstone75 Nice height. I recall the discussion the kid had: “If we had a rotor we could get maybe 12 stations on good days, instead of 3.” The farmer was not impressed.

Interesting work from @Salin247 and Auburn University testing a diesel/electric autonomous 8-row planter in real field conditions. That’s where this technology gets interesting — not demos, but actual performance, logistics, uptime, and agronomic results in the field.
