Reworked this a little for rounds 1-7 since 2010, redefining a draft "hit" as a player that signed a second deal anywhere above market value (more on that below). Makes the threshold for a "hit" a little higher, but nonetheless think it's revealing. Sure, you have a good chance of landing a successful IOL in R1, but you also do in R3. And your EDGE choice might be a coin flip in R1, but good luck in R3!

ESPN content producer @PaulHembo calculated the percentage of 1st-round picks that “hit” or “miss,” based upon whether that player signed a second contract with the team that drafted them.   The data encompasses the 20 drafts spanning 2000-2019. Here are the positional hit rates:

@WomanDefiner On every dimension, whatever is going on at the VA and Booz Allen Hamilton (who is massively involved in a huge number of operations) is nothing short of pure corruption. There is endless human centipede-ing and incompetence. maxwhalen.org/blog/ab-bah-va

@William35612 @FloridaBBHour Look at his HS highlights, where he was forced to handle the ball. Obviously it’s a leap to college but he could handle the ball well then and didn’t lose any of his suddenness off the bounce. Just wasn’t asked to do that with four guards who called handle the ball last year.

@FloridaBBHour I think he handles it great for a “4/PF” now I’m not saying he can’t make that jump but if he does and gets that blow by factor vs other SF then I don’t see how he isn’t in contention for SEC POTY.

Add in Urban Klavžar and incoming freshman Alex Lloyd and you have 4 offensive playmakers at the 1 and 2. Not many rosters in America where you can make that claim.
Neil W. Blackmon@nwblackmon

More on this later @FloridaBBHour but if the Gators land Boogie Fland, he and Xaivian Lee complement each other and would give the Gators one of the best backcourts in America in 2025-26. Both can play on ball, create for themselves & others off bounce, drive, and shoot.

Because you don’t see the poofers make it on to the tour anymore! Why don’t you compare the length of winners in the last 5 years to the prior 5? They’re obviously longer. The bottom half in length may be winning on tour, but these players length of the tee is obviously not in the bottom half of competitive players.

@tweeth_mitchell It doesn’t seem like the data even supports this though. More guys in the bottom 25 driving distance on tour have won this year than guys in the top 25. Just doesn’t feel like the distance guys are winning at a concerningly high rate.

I think this misses the point of the paradigm shift that is happening now. Today ~85% of Doctors jobs are primarily recall and non-technical procedures (i.e. not surgery). For Lawyers this is close to 100% I imagine? If this is a bet on AI long term, that skill of pure recall becomes increasingly obsolete under the pretense that we are approaching AGI. We no longer will exclusively operate under the old procedure where you store up information and bring it into the hospital/court room. If we can give practitioners, like Doctors, near perfect recall in a way that is not obtrusive (obviously no one wants their doctor using dictation on ChatGPT) then I see that as a win. It's not cheating anymore, it's just an essential tool of the trade. Maybe the bigger problem is how you filter idiots from becoming Doctors then, but that's another issue. (Bezel is awesome btw)

yes, exactly. students are not cognizant enough of application to only understand the things that they need. and so, when the baseline shifts and the default becomes to cheat, now learning becomes optional. you're also assuming that every student will use the time they gain back productively. the ones who don't are actually the ones who need learning the most.

This is a pretty poor understanding of what happened here. The most important point here is that Golden was trying to take advantage of the 1&1, not just make a guy “flip a switch” and save time. Second, it’s much more likely the instruction was to foul Toppin, who is a 67% FT shooter, not Williams. The EV is likely similar for Toppin on a 1&1 vs a full possession, with the opportunity to create an extra possession. That’s true. But this logic does not hold for Darrion Williams, an 84% free throw shooter.

This is one of the most psychotic, evil-genius moves I’ve ever seen late in a basketball game. Darrion Williams had only attempted four free throws in two games up to this point in San Francisco. Florida surprised him by purposely fouling him in the backcourt. The #Gators forced him to suddenly snap into focus from the (relative) calm of the backcourt, without the work-your-way-into-the-heat-of-battle causeway to free throws that usually happens when a guy goes to work in the paint or is jumping up for a shot. Basically forced him to flip a switch and hit the clutchest of clutch free throws. He did not. But let’s say that he hit two free throws. It’s still an advanced analytics move to do this here because it extends the game and grants you more possessions to come back. Most teams wait until the 40 or 50 seconds before they start fouling. Todd Golden does it with nearly THREE MINUTES left in the game, giving his team a chance to come back in the twilight between normal game mode and desperation mode. That way, if your ensuing possession doesn’t net points, you still have that much more time to claw back because you didn’t let the opponent bleed 30 seconds off the clock. Of course, it turned out to be the best possible outcome. Williams missed the front end of the one-and-one, Haugh buried a three, and Florida came back to win. What a move this was by @CoachToddGolden and @JonathanSafir 👏

@_LFGolf @practicalgolf @Daniel_Rapaport @GrantHorvatGolf Professional golf is an entertainment product. If it ceases to be entertaining, then it provides no value. The 120th guy in the field being really good at golf has almost zero intrinsic value, so if value comes from the product being entertaining then Horvat deserves the spot.

Yesterday @Daniel_Rapaport asked @GrantHorvatGolf if he would accept a sponsor's invite to a PGA Tour event. I believe this will happen 100% in the near-ish future at a low-level event. And then I predict the following: 1) He'll do an amazing job giving insight into what it's like to prepare and play in a tour event 2) The video will attract 10-30x more eyeballs than the TV viewership. Maybe even more. 3) TONS of people will be up in arms, saying he didn't deserve to be there

In the last week, @WSJ has written two articles about DOGE's scrutiny of Booz Allen Hamilton and the VA. I spent nearly the last two years with both. I wrote about it and how it could be that the people working in essential jobs aren't always essential workers. maxwhalen.org/blog/3bbb5734-…

This is completely antithetical to the point Thiel was trying to make, if this is a real quote. What he was more likely getting at… “The most powerful anti-Christian movement is the one that takes over and ‘radicalizes’ the [Christian] concern for victims in order to paganize it… what the radicalization of contemporary victimology produces is a return to all sorts of pagan practices: abortion, euthanasia, sexual undifferentiation, Roman circus games galore but without real victims, etc.” -René Girard, I see Satan Fall Like Lightning (Ch. 14)

@BIODAWGSPORTBOI @TrillThreeski Been trying to tell folks— Florida didn’t lose because of refs. Gators shot more FTs. I thought Absom made contact with him but don’t care, really. Florida didn’t show up in the first half and Georgia made more plays. Dawgs deserved to win the game.

I just have to say… if we’re gonna spend this much energy talking about the scene. As @TrillThreeski pointed out earlier this call was just as significant in the outcome of the game if it goes the other way there’s just as big a gripe with this one. That’s the game.
