"What if the Constitution was silent on abortion because its drafters believed that it — like virtually all medical procedures — should remain unregulated as a matter of law? How, in other words, do we interpret that historical silence?"

My latest on @kveller for #YomHaShoah: "As we remember the 6 million daughters and sons lost in the Holocaust, we should also honor the countless women and men like Katherine Senesh, who fought to keep their memory alive."

Here’s your reminder that America owns colonies. It taxes us without giving us representation in Congress. It’s sends our citizens to wars without allowing those citizens to vote for the president. It cheats the poor of benefits while giving tax breaks to the rich. ¡Basta ya! 🇵🇷

The Supreme Court rules 8-1 that the government does not violate the equal protection clause by excluding Puerto Rico residents from Supplemental Security Income, a safety-net program for people who are blind, disabled, or at least 65. Sonia Sotomayor is the lone dissent.

Reminder to my fellow UMass students that we have free access to @Kanopy and it’s catalog of movies, including the heartwarming short film “Sweetheart Dancers” about two Indigenous dancers in New Mexico❤️ Consider it your pick-me-up for the evening!

#OTD in 1975: Nearly 3 million people living in #Cambodia's capital of Phnom Penh were victims of forced displacement. Known as "April 17 People," they became the targets of the Khmer Rouge's atrocity crimes & violent campaign to create an agrarian utopia. ushmm.org/genocide-preve…

This short piece allowed me to practice balancing survivor experience with historical narration and imagination. I hope it inspires you to listen to the voices of today’s displaced populations when you see them on your news feed.

Only seven times since the Holocaust has the U.S. concluded that genocide was committed. Today, at the @HolocaustMuseum, marks the eighth, as I have determined that members of the Burmese military committed genocide and crimes against humanity against Rohingya.
