I don’t even keep track of what time the Angels are playing anymore. I just check ESPN to see the score and they’ve already lost somehow.

There's a flower shop in Shibuya that opens at 5am. Seemed random so I asked the owner why so early. She said she used to work as a nurse on night shifts. I would get off at 6am and every flower shop was closed. She wanted to buy flowers for herself after hard shifts but couldn't. When she quit nursing and opened her own shop, she decided to open at 5am. "For all the night shift workers who want to buy themselves flowers." I asked if she gets many customers that early. She said not many. Maybe three or four a morning. Sometimes none. "But when someone does come in at 5am to buy flowers, I know they need them. The night shift is hard. Everyone deserves flowers after a hard night." She said her favorite customer is a guy who comes in every Friday at 5:30am, buys a single rose. She asked him once who it's for. He said "myself. I'm a security guard. Work all night at an office building. The rose sits on my dashboard while I drive home. Reminds me I did good work, even if nobody saw it." She told me that story and started crying. "People don't buy themselves flowers enough." I bought myself flowers that day. First time ever.

There is NO reason any of us should have to thrive in a fast-paced environment or work well under pressure. Most of our daily work is not an emergency, and our culture of fake urgency and immediacy, just to make more profit for the C-suite, is burning people out.

Unpopular work opinion, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with simply wanting to do your job and go home

I Lost my wallet in Tokyo. Like completely lost it. I had all my cards, my cash, everything. I was freaking out. Went back to every place I'd been that day. Nothing. Went to the police station to file a report, not expecting anything. The officer asked for my name and address where I was staying. Went to check the lost and found. I came back with my wallet. Everything is still in it. All the cash, all the cards, even receipts I didn't care about. I was shocked. Asked where it was found. He checked the report and said "Family Mart, Shibuya. Turned in by an employee 20 minutes after you left." I went back to that Family Mart to thank whoever found it. The employee who turned it in wasn't there, but his coworker said he'll pass along the message. I asked what the person's name was so I could come back. The coworker looked confused and said "he doesn't need thanks. It is normal to return a wallet." Like it was the most obvious thing in the world. Of course you return a lost wallet. Why wouldn't you? I'd been living in the US too long, I guess. Forgot that some places, doing the right thing is just... normal.

I posted this on Instagram yesterday and got flooded with comments of relief that this gag in The Devil Wears Prada 2 was created by an actual human (me), so I figured I’d also post it here because I think these companies should get their flowers when they hire an artist.

Seeing all the hype around the Ducks is bittersweet as an Angels fan. This city is clearly hungry for a winner. Fuck you, Arte Moreno, Sell the Team.

An Anaheim sports team has won a playoff series. Incredible. All starts at the top with Henry & Susan Samueli. Exemplary ownership, letting their GM do his job and investing in the team + community. So happy for my fellow Anaheim Ducks fans. Long wait to get to this point.
