President Trump’s latest Truth Social post back-paddles out of 20% fees on the Strait of Hormuz making it appear as it was leveraged to solicit Gulf state investments in the United States. It seems as a way to posture for his base for the upcoming U.S. midterm elections and increase stock market sentiment.

President Trump's comment does nothing but further confuse the issue in the Strait of Hormuz. ▶️The US and Iran have no legal standing to impose tolls on shipping under the principle of "Transit Passage" ▶️The US should have clarified the opening of the Strait before ending their blockade ▶️Shipping is unlikely to pay US protection money, or even reflag to the US registry without a more visible committment by @CENTCOM and @US5thFleet to shipping security. ▶️The death of Indian mariners on each Mombasa and GFS Galaxy, will further push India into defending shipping in the region. ▶️The only ships currently transiting the Strait are doing so through the Iranian channel, i.e. ships carrying cargo for Japan earlier this week. We find the Strait, once again, in chaos and a return to the standoff between the US and Iran in this undeclared maritime war.
