When I started out with handpainted 3D, I chose a colour, used the same colour with some white for highlights, and with some black for dark parts. Don´t be like me. Instead, consider this approach to make your textures 100 times more vibrant:

It doesn't matter if AI might do it in the future. Do it now anyway. We went through the entire 70's and 80's believing that the future would be flying cars and nobody would need to work. Retro-futurism exists when that "for sure" future does not. Invest in yourself, adapt to what actually happens. Not what we think might.
