@mbounds

Worked for the Mouse, then roamed around the country writing ghost tours, and then ran away and joined the circus. And I’ve had fun doing it all!

@TheHorizoneer I was just in LA, and seeing both the Hollywood sign and the Observatory always gives me goosebumps!

To commemorate the re-opening of Big Thunder Mountain, I’ll share a picture of one of my prized possessions from my days as a “miner”. 😎

@Parkeology I was working the Hall of Presidents in the summer of 1982, so needless to say, my mind was blown when I saw the American Adventure during Epcot employee previews! Truly was “the dawn of a new era”

Franklin wasn’t Disney’s first animatronic to appear to walk, but he was the first human figure to do so. Disney touted walking Ben in every guidebook, magazine article, and interview. For fans used to bolted-down pirates, this was nothing short of amazing!

In 1982, everything about EPCOT felt new, advanced, and exciting. Ben Franklin actually walking is a perfect example. Back then, The American Adventure was a premier attraction, maybe even THE premier attraction. Today, some visitors don’t even know it exists, so what happened?

@jimkocher Yes! The use of “parallax” was a great innovation that still stands up to this day.

@StoliarSteve Always wondered about the legality of them using their stage names on legal documents. Was there ever a legal name change, or was it just a simpler time when you could do such things ?

Producer Sam Harris exercises his option to extend "Animal Crackers" through the 1929-1930 season, with the concurrence of The Marx Brothers - Leo (Chico), Herbert (Zeppo), Arthur (Harpo), and Julius (Groucho). Shortly thereafter, they signed their stage names on legal documents.

Remember that weird dream where you vaguely remember giant inflatable Disney characters lording over World Showcase pavilions in EPCOT? Not a dream, that was "Surprise in the Skies" and it was weird. The massive mice were the least bizarre part; there were hang gliders as well!

@HarrisonHighto2 My wife is a flight attendant and is shocked every time someone goes into one of those bathrooms in bare feet or socks! Ugh!

@Parkeology There is a camera focused on the boats back there and I remember during training being told to watch that monitor to avoid “stacking boats” which was when one boat would reach the top, and come crashing down on the one in front of it!

Sure, we have ridden Pirates of the Caribbean a hundred times. But none of us have ever ridden ALL of it! There’s a entire section of track behind the curtain, where the boat goes UP a ramp and back to the Load Station. Probably an entire hidden show scene back there, right??

@Parkeology A roller skating rink inside a bar… what could possibly go wrong?! I heard they were averaging a broken bone a week, and Legal finally stepped in to shut it down.

The XZFR Rockin’ Rollerdome combined skating, which even in 1989 was out of vogue, with a dance club and alcohol. That may sound fun, but it was doomed from the start. It’s one of the zanier “what the hell, let’s try it” Eisner era ideas. Did anyone actually give it a shot?

The “Electronic Forum” theater was housed in EPCOT Center’s CommuniCore. It allowed audience members to electronically vote on various current topics. It felt like the future. Did anyone actually participate in this? It’s like the EPCOT-iest thing ever!

Who remembers the Birth Theater at the Wonders of Life Pavilion? 🧬 I miss being able to see the remains when EPCOT was still utilizing the pavilion as the Festival Center for Flower and Garden. This pavilion has now been closed longer than it’s been open… sad to see it rot.

NEW: Disney is reportedly planning to cut up to 1,000 positions in the coming weeks, with many of the cuts in the recently consolidated marketing division as part of a cost-cutting effort code-named “Project Imagine," according to @JBFlint and @benfritz. wsj.com/business/media…
