The GoDown mourns the passing of Patrick Mukabi, a master visual artist and mentor to a generation of artists! We remember Patrick as a long-experienced artist known for his deft hand at light and shadow. This is portrayed in his colourful paintings of women at work in Nairobi.

This Easter season, we reflect on transformation—not as a moment, but as a continuous practice. We find that in every piece of work you put in, something is always opening up new possibilities. Happy Easter from all of us at The GoDown!

Wangari Maathai was the first female professor in Kenya and the first African woman to be awarded the #NobelPeacePrize. Born on this day, she was a committed environmentalist and founded the Green Belt Movement, which led to the planting of millions of trees.

The AAK Annual Convention 2026 will be held in September 2026, in alignment with the Pan African Biennale.
