Hot take- the biggest barriers to trying new hobbies in Kenya is elitism. Cyclists geeking over bikes, hikers flexing salomons, car guys making it about status. If your community scares beginners, it’s not growing its gatekeeping

From the Mt.Kilimanjaro Day Dash to the Kili Half Marathon! What a weekend full of Personal Bests! This run was meant to be a cool down after my Kilimanjaro Day Dash on Friday. I was taking it easy, listening to my body and responding accordingly. I started the run with a comfortable pace of 4.08mins/km that dropped to 4.32mins/km at some point, and then peaked after the 8th Km, all the way to 3.15mins/km as I sailed down to the stadium, resulting to a new Half Marathon PB of 1:19:21 I finished feeling strong and should probably go back to the mountains for a real cool down 🤣 The #adidas #adiospro4 lived up to the hype! It felt light, yet gave me proper/enough cushioning. Despite going a size up, the shoe has a tight fitting, and I was a bit concerned that my toes will be hurt especially on the downhills, but it held up nicely and I finished without blisters or any injuries! What a day! What a run! Congratulations to all the participants!

Mt.Kilimanjaro Day Dash - Mweka Route (43.31Km & 4431M Elevation Gain) [20-03-26] There was a bit of discomfort going into this hike due to the heavy Rains. However, the mountain and I got a love story going on, and yesterday she went over and above for me, (can’t say the same for the others) 😅, controlling the rains and keeping me warm. I had one of the warmest climbs to the summit and the pictures are testament to this. Imagine summiting Kilimanjaro without a jacket and gloves on! While I was having a good time up there, it was pouring like crazy below, and vice versa as I descended. After a 2 hour delay, we started our climb at 5:22am and I tried to push as much as possible. Due to the heavy rains, the trail was muddy and wet and the stairs on this route made it a tough exercise. By day break, I had covered a good section of the forested part, and the views on the way up were giving making for a good climb. The trail was very busy with hikers coming down after summiting. As I went up, the porters cheered me on and wished me well on my crazy attempt! It was a different and wholesome experience! I had sort of underestimated the summit push. Perhaps, due to the mountain not looking overbearing. Things got really tough from Barafu Camp probably because at this point, you are almost at 5000M ASL. I was moving, but I was not making much progress. Step after step, it was a struggle to get to Stella Point, and thereafter, the 1Km to the summit felt as if the summit had been moved further, a reminder never to underestimate any summit push! You should have seen the way my face and my whole body lit up when I saw the summit point. I ran to it like a lover coming back home from a long trip, to the hands of his lover who had been anxiously waiting for him. After 7 hours, I had made it to the summit and it was only fair that the mountain and I, have a moment, one that lasted over 20 minutes. Hiking down, the weather switched up a bit from Stella Point, but that was okay because the most important thing had been achieved! Things got slower than I had expected and the stairs were not friendly to my knees, which meant I had to take it easy since I had a half marathon coming up on Sunday! After 5 hours, I was back at the Mweka Gate, happy and satisfied with the day! What a hike!

Enough is enough people. I got to Namanga 3pm and decided to end my ride and board Naekana. The rains has been playing hide and seek with me the entire ride. At Namanga the road ahead as per frame 3 looked threatening

I defied the rain and proceeded to Oldonyosambu 30 km later a high point that drains your energy whichever direction you approach it from. Here it started to rain seriously again and I was forced to shelter for a while.

…BACK TO THE BADLANDS People invite you for a group ride, and then they don’t show up,what do you do? Well, despite struggling to sleep, I stepped out of my comfort zone, picked a well-serviced bike with fully functioning brakes, and set out to relieve stress,

Kili Marathon 2026 — done and dusted. We had some drizzles while trying to access MoCU Stadium. To make matters worse, a group of dancers and a DJ were blocking our path, and we nearly missed the start getting there with barely a minute to spare. For the full marathon, we ran the half marathon course twice. And let me tell you, the first 5 km from MoCU Stadium are no joke they feel like running up a wall. I cleared the 21 km mark in 1 hour 40 minutes. By the way do you know a full marathon race really starts at 21 km. My strategy of not running alone paid off in a big way because I managed to maintain a steady pace throughout the race. A big thanks to the clouds for denying the sun the access to torment us 🤣🤣. It was also fun catching up with runners who had passed me earlier, and in some cases returning the favor by passing them later in the race. Aura for aura 😂😂. @Limo_kipkemoi, did I just do what you asked me to do last year? When I cycled to Moshi via Namanga to run a half marathon? Because this year I cycled to Moshi and went ahead to run a full marathon, just as you told me. And guess what? I have a PB in the full marathon, something I never expected 🥳🥳🥳 Check out my run on Strava: strava.com/activities/178… Meanwhile, I’ll write a proper article about this marathon once I settle down, so you can experience it almost like you were actually there. For now, let me rest — and figure out a return-to-Nairobi formula.

As I hinted earlier this year, I have a personal challenge coming up later this month. On 20th March, I’ll be cycling from Nairobi, Kenya to Moshi, Tanzania (340 km) via Namanga, aiming to complete it in 15 hours. Once there, I’ll run a full marathon (42 km) at the annual Kili Marathon. To wrap up the challenge, I’ll then cycle back to Nairobi. As always, I’m inviting my fans and followers to join the journey virtually. I’ll be sharing updates here, as well as on Instagram, TikTok, and through a special WhatsApp group. I will share more details as dates approach.
