🔵 CHARGES LAID 🔵 We have laid charges against one man who is accused of stabbing a Calgary Transit Peace Officer late Friday evening. 📍 On Friday, Oct. 18, 2024, at approximately 9:40 p.m., police were called to the Chinook CTrain Station, located in the 6300 block of 1A Street S.W., for reports that a Calgary Transit Peace Officer had been stabbed. It is believed that two peace officers approached an unknown man who was observed to be consuming alcohol in a nearby bus shelter, when the man became combative and produced a knife. A brief struggle ensued and one of the peace officers was stabbed in the arm. The suspect fled, however was taken into custody by the peace officers a short distance away. Upon police arrival, CPS officers took custody of the man. The Calgary Transit Peace Officer was transported to hospital with non-life threatening and has since been released. 📌 William Cody WOODWARD, 42, of Calgary, has been charged with one count each of assaulting a peace officer causing bodily harm, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon and failing to comply with a release order. He was remanded into custody and will next appear in court on Monday, Oct. 21, 2024. 💬 “This was a dynamic incident, which underscores how quickly a situation can develop and the dangers that exist to all peace officers every day,” says Insp. Jason Bobrowich, District 1 of the Calgary Police Service. “Calgary Transit Peace Officers do an incredible job keeping transit users safe in Calgary and we are grateful that this member will be okay.” 💬 💬 "Our Peace Officers are highly trained professionals who encounter a variety of situations - some of which are extremely dangerous,” says Acting Chief Marcia Gonder, Public Vehicle Standards, Emergency Management & Community Safety at The City of Calgary.
