@rationalyankee My main gripe with this, was in his extended comments of this quote, about spending more than anyone in player development. If they spend more than anyone in this field shouldn’t there be more results from homegrown players, aside from the pitching side.

Of all the things Hal said today, this was the only one I think is absolute BS. The Yankees are worth more than $8B. I’ve yet to hear of a single other business that’s been around for 123 years that is worth $8B and is running an annual deficit. If owning a baseball team wasn’t profitable, the owners would all be selling their franchises at a loss. Take the tax write off. Maybe there are some years where the Yankees aren’t cash flow positive. They’d have to open their books to truly know for sure. But I don’t believe for one second that, overall, owning a baseball team isn’t a wildly profitable business. If franchises were actually losing money, their values wouldn’t be skyrocketing.

It would be interesting if the Yankees consider looking into a Ketel Marte trade and also look to trade Jazz Chisholm Jr. with a year left. It’s the last chance for the Diamondbacks to trade him for some value at his age and deal. The Yankees could use a hitter like that in the Top 3. The Yankees also have some good pitching depth to offer the Diamondbacks if they want to make a deal.

@Joba_44 Yeah just learned that. His Cubs tenure was a little confusing with all the opt outs and multiple contracts I didn’t realize they offered a QO after his first contract opt out. I retract. I don’t see them offering anyone a QO.
