If you want Homer and Shakespeare to endure, you're going to have to get comfortable with black and brown people acting these roles. These are epics and myths - not realistic historical drama. Western Civilisation is the birthright of all who accept it, not of one ethnic group.

@SteveAkehurst @BNHWalker I have 8% of 2024 Greens currently voting Reform in my latest, more than went to any other party (Lab 2, Con 2, LD 4). Consideration situation is reversed, i.e. current Greens much more likely to consider Lab or LD than Reform (or Con).

@BNHWalker Genuine q - why don’t these voters ever show up in BES, even national polling? Or am I looking for them wrongly? (tend to use consideration scales etc)

Greens lose 30pts in vote share in one of their Peterborough defences to Reform. Per what I'd been saying earlier, they share more votes than you realise...

Some of my frustration with the UK probably comes from inflated expectations. When you give the world the industrial revolution, modern science, antibiotics, vaccines, modern sanitation, Lord of the Rings, the Beatles, Monty Python, and The IT Crowd, how do you follow that act?
Noah Smith 🐇🇺🇸🇺🇦🇹🇼@Noahpinion

Actually I really like the UK, I'm just frustrated by their elite class' utter inability to even recognize the country's deep problems, much less address them. It's frustration born out of love.

Plenty won’t know how good a footballer Jonathan Woodgate was. He’s turning out to be a good coach, too #mufc #Echobox=1771231086" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">thesun.co.uk/sport/38216920…

@hbrooks_coach Strong agree with this. I really like Ange and his achievement in the EL is legitimately a major one. But IMO he did tacitly accept going out and losing league games for around three straight months, and I think the consequences have lasted.

@ben_bowman_ Honestly if I were him I'd stand down. Try and rebuild a career somewhere else, it's not happening here.

@s8mb The magical thing about this *not* being the Soviet Union is that you don't have to buy it, and you are free to criticise it.

@JackPittBrooke I have the sense watching us that whenever the opposition really needs to, they can score. We can dominate a half, but as soon as you see 3 or 4 oppo players show some urgency, fight and a little quality, you know they're gonna cut through us. Any number of games this season.

I keep thinking about the awful form Bournemouth, West Ham and Burnley were in coming into playing Spurs. No PL win for months in all three cases. But every time, Spurs are the team who look nervous and who collapse when someting goes wrong. Confidence could not look any lower.

They played a montage of moment from Burnley's history here with 'Times Like These' earlier. Ruined it a bit. But they're now playing 'Ecstasy of Gold' as the players come out and it is extremely good. Suddenly feels like a World Cup final.

60 mins, still 1-1. Game is quite ragged. Spence fell over the box, Burnley broke, Broja ran through but offside flag. Feel like one moment of quality or a mistake will win this.

Beware of the inherent positivity bias in polls. Find a comparative framework. Try to work out how much people actually care. And test against the trade-offs. hold-sway.com/blog/the-troub…

Here's a new blog post from me on how to read issue and policy polls. Short version: don't believe the headline.

A progressive-only strategy doesn't work because three quarters of the seats Labour is defending have a right-wing party in second place; and because there has been a 7-point swing against progressives as a whole since the election.

@LukeTryl No question that views are negative, but if you're trying to find out whether the public actually believes he's on the way out, this Q isn't the way to do it. Gotta start with a binary KS will/will not be leader at next GE, not a 4-point scale with 3 "will not" options.

🆕 🧵Polling suggests that across a series of metrics. Last week's infighting/briefing have had a real negative impact on perceptions of the Prime Minister. Currently just 13% of the public now think Keir Starmer will be Prime Minister at the time of the next election.
