We have some beautiful new footage being added to our Forest of Dean pine marten projects, help spot the martens and see if you can identify individuals based on unique bib pattern markings! #CameraTrapping #CitizenScience

@alitwonk @Yatfalcon It may have been.Size/shape is about right. Best thing is to give it a sniff. If it smells horrendous & acidic, it's fox, if not then it is more likely to be marten! 💩 We are also interested in sightings if you can email details to cat.mcnicol@gloucestershirewildlifetrust.co.uk

We get a lot of questions about how martens interact with other furry things with teeth... So great to see this recent paper by @kzalewwska and @CWaggershauser using #cameratraps... the pine marten monitoring bread and butter!
Martes Working Group@MartesGroup

How do pine martens coexist with other larger carnivores? A new study by @kzalewwska @CWaggershauser et al. used camera trapping to investigate non-lethal interactions between European pine martens and their competitors, red fox and Eurasian badger, in Scotland. (1/n)

*trying to write project legacy plan* Except conservation project exit strategies seem to be rarer than species we are conserving🐾 Reminder: 'They are not expressions of pessimism but rather clear-eyed engagements with reality' Ruiz-Miranda et al. 2020 doi: 10.1002/fee.2163

Now if you could be a good model and just sit there and run quietly while I go out and do some field work today that would be just super. Cool, thanksss.

We need more of this in applied conservation! If there's a will, there's a way. #ConservationEvidence
