‘The moment you admit you’re struggling the healing begins❤️🩹’
When I sat down for this conversation little did I know I would end up sharing a story about such a difficult period in my life. Yet having the courage to share this experience all these years later I knew in my heart it could possibly be enough to help someone going through the exact same thing right now.
When I left the UK for Miami, I thought I was leaving behind some tough years of being bullied on TV and while I was good at pretending I was okay the compounding stress it was having was causing me mental & physical pain.
But I soon realised that being far from home, from the country I loved, my family and friends, and everything that felt familiar wasn’t the answer and in turn left me feeling even more isolated and alone, which led to me spiralling into what I can only describe as ‘dark a place’ and of ultimately wanting to end it all. Something I never thought I would think, let alone say in my life.
It was in that moment, I knew I needed to speak to someone, anyone. For me, it was my manager, Colin. He listened without judgement and sometimes in the darkest places, all you need is one person you can truly confide in.
I know how fortunate I was to have someone there & I’m very aware that not everybody has that support. That’s why charities & helplines exist, to be that listening ear when you feel like you’ve got no one else to turn to.
By finally sharing with someone what I had been battling with for years things started to become lighter & I was able to slowly find my way back home both literally & figuratively.
I felt compelled to share this experience with you as I know how many of you maybe going through your own struggles right now & the more we can share our stories the more chance we have of being able to help each other heal.
If you ever find yourself feeling like you can’t cope, please know: there is always someone who will listen.❤️✨
