As I step away from Berwickshire High School for the next year, I want to congratulate our school community on the superb progress we’ve made together in 4 years. Our school today is unrecognisable from the one that was rated 3 ‘Weak’s & an ‘Unsatisfactory’ in a 2019 inspection.

@MrMcEnaney Ironically causing the young person who is already having difficulty with the higher level to keep up with *more* work, often with different requirements instead of becoming more secure in the knowledge reqd for the course at the higher level. Poorly designed CFE senior phase.

An important point: having kids do 2 levels of a course at once often effectively means having them do 2 different courses. The workload implications for staff and pupils are obvious.

@EuanYours @MrMcEnaney For a subject like biology the N4 and N5 courses are totally different - they don't cover the same content. So it's not a dual level class, it's dual *course*. For physics we don't have that issue, but the testing demands cause issues.

If we put too much emphasis on students ‘leading their own learning’ or we design lessons so different students engage in different tasks, all we do is create learning & achievement gaps. As much as possible, we should be trying to keep everyone’s learning together in a class.

SQA Barista Skills help! Please RT for visibility if you can just found out that the coffee machines purchased don't meet an updated list of requirements looking for an espresso machine (bean to cup) which has either a 5L capacity water tank/plumbed in which doesn't cost a bomb
