For @SBNation I wrote about three Mississippi high school football players who died in the same season, and how inequality in state funding and public education can make football's risks that much greater sbnation.com/2020/2/25/2114…

Deeply depressing, but also if you give people just a small sample in blind tests like these they'll say all kinds of weird things, like that they prefer Pepsi over Coke x.com/kevinroose/sta…

We made a blind taste test to see whether NYT readers prefer human writing or AI writing. 86,000 people have taken it so far, and the results are fascinating. Overall, 54% of quiz-takers prefer AI. A real moment! nytimes.com/interactive/20…

@mdent05 Great piece about the U.S.'s diaper industry in @TheHustle! My immigrant mom has mentioned multiple times that my brother and I were toilet trained before 1 year—now I've been trying to start with my 11-month-old! Best of luck with potty training for your little one!

Well, turns out this was my last story for The Washington Post, 2,011 bylines later. For nine years, it was a dream in every sense of the word, no matter how many of the company's leaders tried to make it otherwise. Thanks for being part of the ride.

I recently went to the college Excel championships in Vegas, spending three days with people who really, really, REALLY love competitive spreadsheeting. Come along. Here's how that looked, sounded and felt, for @PostSports: washingtonpost.com/sports/interac…

Personal news: Today is my last day at the @PhillyInquirer after 12.5 amazing years. I’m so grateful to the paper that raised me for giving me every opportunity & to the brilliant journalists here who tell the region's stories so well - and whom I'm lucky to call dear friends.

LinkedIn saw it first: This week I start as the Dallas Accountability Reporter at KERA, covering city government and issues impacting Dallas residents. It's been a busy summer in Dallas (stories in thread). I'm excited to step into this role and report on the city full time!

I have slowly made contact with more magazine writers who are using AI to do research and I want to stake the position that if you are not able to get off this slippery slope you should leave the field and choose a different profession

In the mid-1980s, chicken was behind pork and beef in US meat consumption. Now, per capita consumption of chicken (100lbs a year) is as much as the other two combined. Few reasons why, per Sherwood News: ▫️In late-70s, US set nutritional guidelines for less beef (saturated fats) and more poultry or fish ▫️Time it took produce a 3lb boiler chicken went from “16 weeks and about 12 pounds of feed” in 1930s to “less than six weeks with less than 6 pounds of feed” by 2000s Burger King dropped its first chicken sandwhich in 1979. McDonald’s launched the McNugget in 1983. Kentucky Fried Chicken changed its name to KFC in 1991 to get rid of the very non-health friendly “fried” word (but obvi they stayed frying the chicken). Healthier rotisseries became a mainstay by the end of decade (Costco now sells and insane 130m+ of them a year). Also helps explaine why we’ve been getting these chicken sandwhich and wrap wars in recent years (Chil-Fil-A, Raising Cane’s, Wendy’s, Popeyes, KFC, McDonald’s, Shake Shack, Dave’s Hot Chicken). *** More from Adam Chandler for Sherwood: sherwood.news/culture/mcdona… Chart via WSJ (article on the pork market): wsj.com/business/bacon…

@CatsBahner Agh, you're right! Definitely should've had that one in there. I do like the Celica better, but I love Solaras, too -- and yours looks great!

@mdent05 Hey Mark!! Just read your article "Why Americans Stopped Buying Convertibles." How could you not mention the beautiful, classy Toyota Solara? Mine is a 2002, classic red, a real cream puff. Handles perfectly, even in the snow, classic simple interior. A gorgeous car!

Some personal news before the draft. One of God’s greatest blessings arrived Tuesday. Noah Gene Taylor was born, weighing 8 pounds & 5 ounces. @hollym_taylor is extraordinary, Noah is healthy & he has loved being held by Hayden, his older brother.

The Athletic has decided it will no longer cover Wisconsin with a full-time beat writer. I was offered a different opportunity at the company and declined. Thank you for subscribing over the last seven years. I’ll be back real soon.

So… After nearly 7 years at The Athletic, my time with the company has come to an end. They no longer want to cover Penn State with a full-time beat writer. Proud of the work I did and the stories I told. Thank you to so many who subscribed. Time to figure out what’s next!
