Starlink, the world's largest satellite internet network, remains excluded from South Africa.
Not because it fails to deliver. Because it does not meet government's ownership requirements.
Instead, government appears ready to open the door to a competitor with zero commercial satellite customers anywhere in the world.
Gerhard Papenfus, Chief Executive of NEASA, explains why this decision has nothing to do with empowerment and everything to do with ideology beating common sense.
The cost falls on rural communities, schools, farmers and businesses who are denied access to world-class connectivity for no good reason.

This is the kind of measured leadership Ghana deserves. At a time when countries from South Africa to Libya are grappling with the consequences of illegal migration, leaders need clear thinking, sound policy, and diplomacy, not emotion. After hearing Hannah Tetteh speak, it’s hard not to think she’d make a stronger Foreign Affairs Minister than @S_OkudzetoAblak. Ghana deserves sober, well-reasoned leadership. @JDMahama
