@RugbyLeagueAm Yeah it's a great story. I feel it loses steam towards the latter part of the book. That doesn't detract from the enormity of the tour. It's more that the tale is less engaging.

I’m in Chapter 16 of No Helmets Required and I’m loving how this rag tag group of American football players go to Australia and learn the game in 10 days and are able to compete and beat (with some referee help, admittedly) some amateur rugby league squads that have played the game for a long time. I’m telling you, athletes are athletes. They can learn the game. It takes time. But athleticism is athleticism. It can take you far. Obviously not far enough to play with a world-class team, but it can take you far.

Peter V'landys confirmed today that there is no loophole. Even if a player is a free agent and they join R360 they will be banned for 10 years (Lomax & Papenhuyzen). Via 7news

Ryan Papenhuyzen could reportedly exploit a loophole to avoid the NRL’s 10-year ban for players joining rebel competition R360. Because he’s no longer under NRL contract, he could sign with R360 as an uncontracted player once their deals begin in July — technically outside the NRL’s jurisdiction. Brent Read says he’ll “take a break until July, then go to R360,” while Beau Ryan called it a “loophole”, adding, “He’s done nothing illegal.” (via Fox Sports)
