Wesley held a clear view of this throughout his life. Perfection=loving god and loving neighbor.
Can that lead to aimlessness? Yes. Sin, according to Basil, is misuse of power. Loving God and loving neighbor means we’re rightly using power.

@jb_61820 @mdsimants Exactly the opposite. The reason entire sanctification is so confusing to so many is because it’s not preached enough by people who understand the doctrine well. If there’s mist in the pulpit, there will be fog in the pews.

John Wesley advised Methodist preachers to preach Christian perfection to believers constantly, strongly, and explicitly. How many sermons have you heard about it?

@ShaneRaynor I’ve never quite got a good fix on what it means (even after reading a book on it) and how it interplays with the idea of a sin nature. Do intrusive thoughts count as imperfection?

Our love for our neighbour, especially the neighbour who is very different from us, is proof of our love for God.
Our theology, no matter how good, becomes irrelevant & idolatrous when it's not used in service of loving God & neighbour.

If you attend a church that averages 80 people on Sunday, that's higher than the median.
If your church has 300 folks show up, that's 4x higher than the median.
The average church is small, folks.

God created Adam from the dust and he made Eve from Adam. It’s amazing to me that theologians who were not present for these events have decided to overrule and reject the account given by God (who was, obviously, there) on the basis of a failed hypothesis about human origins put forward by men (who also weren’t there) trying vainly to explain creation without the Creator.

I say this as a Christian Priest & Theologian:
Any Christianity that threatens to kill an entire civilization needs to be ripped up, shredded & incinerated.
Burn it so from its ashes a more ancient, love-oriented Christianity that looks, tastes & smells like Jesus may rise.
