A small ship I love: We made Claude.ai and our desktop apps meaningful faster this week.
We moved our architecture from SSR to a static @vite_js & @tan_stack router setup that we can serve straight from workers at the edge. Time to first byte is down 65% at p75, prompts show up 50% sooner, navigation is snappier.
We're not done (not even close!) but we care and we'll keep chipping away. Aiming to make Claude a little better every day.

AI will win not because it’s better but because it’s more delicious.

If maintainability weren’t a thing this might be true.
The art of coding has always been the opposite of whatever spaghetti code is. LLMs have not sufficiently demonstrated they understand this concept.

Chamath on how AI agents are making the "10x engineer" distinction disappear because the most efficient "code paths" are now obvious to everyone. Just as AI solved chess and removed the mystery of the best move, AI is doing the same for coding, making the process reductive and removing technical differentiation. "I'm going to say something controversial: I don't think developers anymore have good judgment. Developers get to the answer, or they don't get to the answer, and that's what agents have done. The 10x engineer used to have better judgment than the 1x engineer, but by making everybody a 10x engineer, you're taking judgment away. You're taking code paths that are now obvious and making them available to everybody. It's effectively like what happened in chess: an AI created a solver so everybody understood the most efficient path in every single spot to do the most EV-positive (expected value positive) thing. Coding is very similar in that way; you can reduce it and view it very reductively, so there is no differentiation in code." --- From @theallinpod YT channel (link in comment)

Holy crap... with the @nextjs 16.2 update the next server is now using 10GB+ of memory and my MacBooks fan is running constantly (before it never even turned on).

We built Start with a client first mindset, but server first performance might be our thing too! 😉

Yesterday I merged a huge PR moving all my course sites off Express.js over to hono.
Four about a year, I’ve been coding new backend features with standard web request/response and asyncLocalStorage. Templating with JSX.
Once I had enough examples, I had Claude go through hundreds of routes and pug templates and convert them all.

This is the most annoying thing in Claude Code.
Hiding raw text when you paste more than 4 lines. Terrible UX decision.

@jeffzwang My best attempt was make the code as modular as possible and sharing less code as much as possible too, so it feels like multiple programs into one, micro apps…

I give it less than 6 months before Garry stops preaching LOC and starts preaching maintainable code bases.
And with that one move he will go from junior engineer to a bit more senior.

If I can do 16k LOC per day across 3 different projects (including one open source one you can see yourself) then I think almost any technical CEO CTO pair at YC will That's the bar now
