President @KagutaMuseveni tasked Rt. Hon. @RebeccaKadagaUG to coordinate a high‑level compensation meeting between Uganda and Kenya. The meeting followed the tragic killing of Ugandan geologists and UPDF soldiers by Turkana warriors from Kenya in March 2022, an incident that deeply shook both nations. The bilateral session was convened at Mestil Hotel in Kampala, chosen as a neutral and diplomatic venue to underscore the seriousness of the matter. Delegations from both partner states attended, with numerous MDAs and agencies represented, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defence, Attorney General’s Chambers, and cultural leaders , reflecting the multi‑sectoral importance of the discussions. Uganda presented its position firmly, demanding a non‑negotiable compensation package of USD 4.3 million to cover all five bereaved families. This proposal reflected not only the financial losses but also the cultural principles of reconciliation, adapted from the okukaraba heritage practice. In contrast, Kenya’s initial offer was KES 77,000 per family (approximately USD 77,000 in total), citing its internal compensation systems and precedents. In the afternoon session, the Kenyan delegation met directly with the bereaved families, listening to their grief and expectations. This human dimension added weight to Uganda’s demand, as families emphasized the irreparable loss and the need for meaningful recognition through compensation. The meeting concluded with the Kenyan envoy requesting time to consult their President regarding Uganda’s proposed package. Following consultations, the parties agreed to adjourn and reconvene on Friday for one hour to receive Kenya’s official feedback. Uganda reiterated that its compensation demand was non‑negotiable, stressing that the matter must be resolved with dignity and fairness.

Dialogue and unity are the real tools for lasting progress. Tororo deserves solutions built on listening, respect, and community wisdom. @KagutaMuseveni
Bishop Samuel ...John 3:16@RealBishopsam

Minister for @meaca_ug and First Deputy Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, has stepped forward to champion peace and unity in Tororo, following the President @KagutaMuseveni's directive issued during the commissioning of Devki Steel Mill. At a stakeholder meeting held this afternoon at Kingdom Kampala, Kadaga convened clan representatives, local leaders, and residents to engage in constructive dialogue aimed at resolving longstanding divisions. Framing the gathering as a turning point rather than a routine consultation, she emphasized reconciliation, community cohesion, and a shared path toward sustainable development. Residents of Utro A and B in Kasipodo Parish, Kayoro Sub-county, were invited to voice their perspectives and contribute to a durable, community-owned solution. The initiative underscored inclusivity, local wisdom, and accountability as pillars for progress. With continued engagement and goodwill, Tororo has an opportunity to move beyond disputes and model a culture of dialogue, resilience, and unity, setting a standard for communities across Uganda.
