I’d rather see no Palestinian lives lost for the hostages. But Hamas want, if not crave, the loss of as many Palestinian lives as possible in response to them holding hostages. This is a highly complex issue that cannot be reduced to simple questions like that. Here’s my question to you - let’s say Israel do this unilateral ceasefire you are calling for. Let’s say it results in no hostages released and ends with Hamas, having had time to rearm and reorganised, launching another attack on Israel. What would you do or say then? You’re asking everyone who isn’t asking for a ceasefire to take responsibility for what happens. Would you take responsibility if that ceasefire results in what Israelis fear it will?
