I just landed in NY and read this in shock. Hard to imagine my life without Julie Powell’s influence; she was so cool and funny and fearless. nytimes.com/2022/11/01/din…
@megnut@mathowie TIL Battle of Leyte Gulf:
> was the largest naval battle of World War II and by some criteria the largest naval battle in history, with over 200,000 naval personnel involved
you're so lucky that you got to know him.

@controlpl4n3@mathowie I didn’t know that! I’m sure he heard a lot, they were in battle of Leyte Gulf. He never really spoke of it, not surprising, but he loved radios. His car license plate was his call sign!
@megnut@mathowie OMG, really!?
Navy radio operators belong to a special priesthood. At times they were the only people who knew where the boat was.
The things he must have heard....!
@mulegirl@mathowie I’ve flown eleven segments since 1/4 and worn an N or KN95 whole time and had no problem. BUT every flight required all passengers to be masked. In US before they dropped it, and three within or from Europe where it’s still required.
@mathowie And I basically flew home but family thanksgiving has been pretty good and prior to COVID has included friends too. And did a big Friendsgiving in nyc like 9 years ago. As long as it’s fun & tasty I’m happy!
@mathowie Ha!! That was so great. I think we did 2000 and 2001? Memory hazy but I recall doing days of prep and being super anxious I’d blow it. And the last time I Friendsgivinged bc we moved back east to family Thanksgivings.
@MrPeripetia Yeah I guess they’re the Dem prob but somehow we gotta get them onboard and then make the frankenbill. It’s crazy 2 or 3 people can hold up the nation’s progress.
Can the Dems create a single Frankenbill (w debt ceiling, infrastructure & voting rights) & pass thru reconciliation? Wouldn’t that solve this filibuster/GOP obstruction?
