@LeanneGSinger @TheFP Exactly this. I have some friends in this situation and they're outliers - they have abnormally low fertility for their age range. I do however agree obgyns should probably run tests to see if you'll have issues before you discover it in your mid 30s when it's often now or never

@TheFP Almost no one in my circle had any trouble at all getting pregnant in early 30s, or even mid-late 30s. The only one I know, had been trying since mid 20s with no success. It is a crapshoot and isn't fair, but I have a hard time believing there is an epidemic of sterile 33yr olds.

I’m an IVF Doctor. Business Is Booming Because Ob-Gyns Aren’t Doing Their Jobs. Just last Monday, a woman sat across from me in my office and asked a question I have come to dread. Why had no one told her? She is 33, a therapist, married three years, and she has been to her gynecologist every year since high school. She was also on the brink of perimenopause. She had assumed that when she was ready, her body would be too. No one in two decades of annual visits had ever explained that the most consequential decisions about her capacity to bear children were being made by her ovaries on a calendar she could not see, while her doctor took her blood pressure and refilled her birth control. She is the patient I see several times a month. She is the most preventable tragedy in American medicine. thefp.com/p/im-an-ivf-do…

@meiamoun @Kali_de_Armas He hated K. Horney’s vagina/womb envy critique cause yeah, he is a hack. Yet we dismiss his work and the ways it can be developed all too easily. In parsing thru the nuance and bs (as is done w all scholarly work) we can think more critically, like K.H. and OP, w/o w-washing🤞

It's easy to make fun of terms like "penis envy," but when you really get down to it, all Freud was arguing is that the process of gendering a child necessarily involves dysphoria, that dysphoria is an inherent dimension of gender, and that being made a gender is not easy on you.

I have a theory. Sorry to use you for this, Emily, but, if you're ever in fear of a trend coming back, you should see if Bella Hadid wore it recently. If she has, you're too late but also clearly you didn't notice it was already trending so you can mark yourself safe.

@jegaevi @triviahanni My windows are actually always open because I can't afford windowpanes... I heard somewhere out there the posh technologically advanced people have them, but here in Europe we're poor, simple folk...

@meiamoun @Paimaamu That's not what a phoentic language is. In Spanish for example, LL and Y tend to represent the same sound - even when they are regionally different. In a phonetic language the meaning of the glyph is the sound it makes in addition to its semantic.

People will hate me but Spelling Bee is a pointless contest not because the competition itself has no utility. Spelling bee simply exists due to the imperfections of the English language. Can you think of Spelling Bee in Hindi or Sanskrit? Words are pronounced as they’re written.

@PlayOrizaya @Paimaamu Spanish and German are also phonetic languages. Most European languages are, a letter is almost always pronounced the same and when it's not there's a very simple rule as to why and when

@Paimaamu There are only ~90,000 words in Spanish, ~100,000 in German, ~150,000 in Hindi, but over 1 million in English all from different etymologies. Sanskrit has a lot more, but is a phonetic language - different thing.

@frog_kun Isn't a fake mishmash of various historical periods in China the default setting for Chinese court dramas/xianxia/wuxia? They're only offended because a non-Chinese person did it, when she's obviously inspired by Chinese palace dramas

The idea that a faux-China setting that's not meant to be historically accurate could even cause MILD upset among some people is the reason why we get the same boring faux-Europe setting in every fantasy ever because of the perceived "barrier" to entry

Natsu Hyuuga about the misconception that Apothecary Diaries takes place in Ancient China: “It’s not technically set in China, but the setting is very much inspired by China. There are also some Japanese sensibilities in there” Full interview: scrmbl.com/post/hyuganats…
