Special Session 4? Why not just separate the bills that contain the funding for educator salaries, safety, etc from vouchers/ESAs? Why did/does state leadership need the use a "carrot" 🥕 of educator raises and school safety for vouchers/ESAs? Why not separate the bills and let each stand on their own and vote each on it's merits?

Why I will never support vouchers: 1. They solve zero problems. 2. They undermine public schooling, and 3. Absent a vibrant public educational system our democracy is in trouble. But then, I think that’s the point. Please play the long game on this—it’s important.

Great visits in #txlege House today! Clearly, the voucher plan doesn’t have the votes. If you have to resort to threats to pass a program, you have already lost. The bipartisan caucus against vouchers and for #txed is growing! No vouchers in Texas. Not now. Not ever.

If we cannot afford to adequately fund schools, we cannot continue to support STAAR.

@DougSunnyvale @GovAbbott Governor Abbott is more interested in school choice for his political aspirations than he is about public ed. The released UT poll says Texans want schools to be fully funded and teachers to be paid appropriately. Vouchers will not get us either one!

@GregAbbott_TX Mom and dad are in charge. They can choose to spend their own money how they want, not taxpayer money. It would be nice if you actually supported public schools for a change.

The numbers don't lie: a majority of Texans from rural, urban, and suburban communities support school choice. Parents know what's best for their children's education. This session, we must put mom and dad back in charge.

Telling children who love graphic novels that "graphic novels do not help you grow as a reader," is not true and diminishes the children right along with the books. Reading doesn't belong to school. It belongs to readers. Value them!
