A valuable skill in life is to be larger than the situation. When you're feeling stressed or rattled, the situation is consuming you. It feels bigger and more important than it needs to be. This is when your emotions are likely to get the best of you. But when you are larger than the situation, you can mentally "step outside and above it." Yes, there are problems to be solved. Yes, you need to take action. But the chaos is happening externally and you are still in the driver's seat internally. You're in control of the moment, the moment is not in control of you.

As these reading discussions continue to happen and folks continue to conflate TCWRP with the concept of Balanced Literacy as if they are one and the same, I get increasingly annoyed.

It seems like a good day to REPOST Paul Thomas! "The current reading war driven by the “science of reading” movement is also mired in emotional anecdotes, personal attacks, and a steady diet of mainstream media misinformation." @plthomasEdD radicalscholarship.com/2022/11/05/sol…

A3: When school because more about learning, and less about delivering an "education" and controlling narratives, a landscape for wider opportunities for things kid love in school presents itself. #g2great

A6 First I want to thank Oliva for creating one of the best podcasts for educators. Here’s season 1-2x: oliviawahl.com/podcast I’d also like to thank Cornelius for always keeping children at the center of all he does. This was incredible! #G2Great

There are so many things that I have learned from @schoolutions & from @DrMaryHoward... When we question things, the work does not end there. We can present alternatives that are tied to data and artifacts from our own classrooms. This is powerful and real. #G2Great

@melizdav @ThoughtfulRead One of the many things I learned from Marie Clay is that the lesson plans is waiting to be written when we pay close attention to the child/children in front of us! #G2Great

This is at the heart. Who is not being served by school as it currently is? What is not working for them? How might I reimagine that thing so that it is better? Try it. Measure it. Share results. This is action research... Inquiry. This is how we win. #G2Great @schoolutions

A5 “What COULD BE?” is a wonderful question to pose with a group of colleagues. How can we take a fresh look at what ISN’T working for children and reimagine how to spend that time INSTEAD. REIMAGINE TOGETHER! #G2Great

@MsKass1 Love a good "parallel practice"! Yes! If we learn best from and with students then let's be sure our PD learns from and with teachers, too. As coach, I should grow every time we are together. #g2great

A5: I think there's a lot of power in offering teachers parallel experiences that we'd like for our students: places to generate ideas without agendas and time constraints, where relational learning and curiosity takes precedence #g2great

@DrMaryHoward Was thinking this might be "too small" for Q3: Notice pencils all over the hallway floor? Meanwhile kids are sent back to class to get one. Put the pencils in a cup in the hall, with a "take-one" note... and a sharpener. Of course not all problems are "pencil" problems. #G2Great

A5 In these challenging times in education with so much force fed outside your control, I love the spirit of Q5. Cornelius isn‘t asking us to throw all we do out, but to contemplate small shifts that will honor our kids + our profession. Small things can be HUGE! #G2Great

Being on @schoolutions with @OliviaRWahl was transformative. It didn't feel like an "answer my questions" experience. Rather, talking to her was an act of co-construction. She was a co-author, and we were building something important. This is how teaching should be. #G2Great

A4 As the creator of Schoolutions Podcast, Olivia offers a master class in listening. Olivia has a way of making us all feel as if we’re sitting in the room with her and her guest listening in. What might happen if we did the same with each other? #G2Great

A4 We shared a quote before the chat that is so pertinent to this question. Cornelius said that his grandmother told him: “Cornelius, it is not as important to be ON time as it is important to be IN time.” What if we embraced that idea? #G2Great
