I find it deeply un-American that individuals in unmarked cars get out in masks and pluck people off the streets. When I reflect on the hundreds of bills this session, I am especially grateful that Sen. Valdez's bill to bar law enforcement from wearing masks reached my desk.

The Millionaires' Tax has now been approved by the Senate. Donald Trump and the MAGA Congress are taking from the lowest income Americans and transferring that to the wealthiest Americans. With a tax that 0.5% of Washingtonians will pay, our state is: Expanding the Working Families Tax Credit to 460,000 additional households. Providing tax relief to nearly 140,000 small businesses. Exempting diapers, hygiene products, and over-the-counter medicines from sales tax. Investing significant funding into childcare and early learning. Providing free school lunch and breakfast for all Washington students.

I’ve said from the beginning of the discussion around the Millionaires’ Tax: Any bill I sign must send a significant percentage of that revenue back to Washington families and small business owners. The latest amendments to the bill achieve these critical goals and will help make our state more affordable. The Millionaires' Tax will: Expand the Working Families Tax Credit to 460,000 additional households. Provide tax relief to nearly 140,000 small businesses. Exempt diapers, hygiene products, and over-the-counter medicines from sales tax. Invest significant funding into childcare and early learning. Provide free school lunch and breakfast for all Washington students. I strongly encourage the Legislature to pass this bill in its current form. It represents a historic step forward in rebalancing our unfair system and making life more affordable for Washington families and small business owners.
