One can. But an addiction screws up the pleasure and reward centers in the brain. So even if one repents it still takes time (not until death but takes weeks at least) for one's brain to stop trying to pursue easy pleasures. Hard to say anything without it sounding like an excuse but there was that time Jesus told his disciples that a certain exorcism required fasting and prayer. That's not to say that Jesus isn't enough to be saved, just that the steps after that first one are harder for some than others.

I normally don't respond to stuff like this. When I see negative posts from people who have no idea what its like to live a life with PI. There are so many people out there living with primary immune deficiency. So many people who cannot leave their homes or their beds. So many people who struggle to find a normal life struggle to do the most basic human things. I got lucky enough to have a community that supported me. They helped me crawl out of a deep hole that I feared I could never get out of. Without them I would not be here today. I also got lucky to have found such a wonderful friend who isn't afraid to do cringe silly stuff that may seem weird to some but to me it means the world. Now I am finally able to do things I never thought I would ever get to do. If i can just give one person with my disease or any other debilitating illness out there a bit of hope and a bit of happiness. I am happy. People need to make the conscious decision to live with less finances in return for being a more present parent. My mom is a stay-at-home mom and that is more valuable than anything a second income could have bought. Compared to my peers growing up, I had less toys, less vacations, and less technology; but what I did have was a mom who read to me, who was there to check my homework, and to ask me how my day went. It's very sad to see people pursue wealth as the goal, driven by a core instinct, and yet blind to the reason why people are driven to acquire those resources at all.
