The Nguni cattle breed has shown remarkable resilience to foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) during the current outbreak in South Africa, which Dr Oswald Jannasch, president of the Nguni Cattle Breeders’ Society, attributes to thousands of years of selection for disease and pest resistance in Africa. farmersweekly.co.za/nampo/demand-f…

Fork your dependencies, trim them to only your use case, never update unless it breaks for your users. I’ve been vocal about this for 10+ years. I’ve always said that updating is way riskier than latent bugs (which can be tracked and CVEs monitored). If you are updating a dependency, it’s on you to analyze every single commit in the full transitive set of dependencies. If you dont see anything compelling, dont update! I remember at HashiCorp once in awhile an engineer would try to update a dep or replace a DIY lib with an external one and id always ask “show me the commit we need.” Dont update for the sake of it. Feeling pretty swell about this mentality with all the supply chain attacks happening.

We need to talk about how B-BBEE quietly stopped working for the people it was built for. When BEE was first conceived, it was about redress for melaninated Black Africans, the people who carried the full weight of apartheid’s design. Then we added “Broad-Based,” and the policy expanded to include groups who, while also disadvantaged, did not share the same socioeconomic destruction as the indigenous Black majority. The result is a redress framework that increasingly benefits those treated comparatively better under apartheid, while the people the policy was originally written for remain locked out of meaningful economic participation. This is not a claim that others did not suffer. It is a claim that the policy lost its scalpel. Now to scrap BEE altogether and replace it with an Equality for All Bill. We know what that means in practice. It is not redress. It is reset.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has introduced a bill that will replace Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) with Poor Economic Empowerment (PEE). They want it to focus on all poor people & not only Black people. They want it to focus on job creation & not ownership. Thoughts?

We have to do it , if not for ourselves then for those that come after us. If we don’t care enough about ourselves , the least we could do is care for those who follow. That is the least.
