NEW: Premier Ford is making it illegal to resell tickets in Ontario for more than their original cost. This comes almost 7 years after his own government scrapped a law that would have capped resale prices at 50% above face value. Hereโ€™s what he said in Oct when I asked why:

Iโ€™m 11min into the Joe Rogan podcast with Pierre and I just gotta say man Pierre is so likeable. Heโ€™s genuinely such a good guy. I donโ€™t give a damn what the polls say, heโ€™s got my support. Joe Rogan said Pierreโ€™s a โ€œvery reasonable, intelligent person that makes a lot of senseโ€

The other night I finished reading "Tess of the d'Urbervilles" by Thomas Hardy. This was book #7 this year. My goal is to complete 30. As always, I'm open to suggestions to add to my TBR. I will read any fiction genres ๐Ÿ“šโค๏ธ

BREAKING: The Ford government is changing Ontario's Freedom Of Information act system, effectively gutting a tool journalists use to obtain documents related to government decision-making: - The Premier, Ministers and their offices will all be excluded from the FOI system. - This applies to all existing requests - Only civil servants can be FOI'd - The government is extending the response timeline from 30 calendar days to 45 business days. #onpoli

BREAKING: Pierre Poilievre will be heading to the United States to make Canada's case, and fight for Canadian jobs and workers. This is a much needed trip. I'm very optimistic given that it's Pierre, not Mark Carney, who's doing the talking this time.

All of my friend group from high school went to university, the only ones with good jobs are those who went into the trades, but they aren't doing much better then us, just have more stable employment. Three went into teaching, it took years of subbing before they got stable fulltime work, one is a nurse who had to move to a small town to get a stable job, one went for an MBA who just got laid off at the end of last year. One is a lawyer, but got so burnt out she started drinking to cope and has spent the last few years getting sober. One is a software engineer who got laid off when AI started taking over and currently works selling cars now. The other one is an addictions counsellor who is going to go back to get her masters because she cant make more than $25/h without one. They all have student debt. They all haven't been able to buy homes. We all turn 30 this year. Wages haven't kept up with profit and productivity, suppression of labour groups has stifled job security and kept wages low, corporate ownership of property skyrocketed in the 2000's, low interest rates meant bidding wars and inflated housing prices, changing technology brought many rural folk into urban areas and of course the immigration boom means supply doesn't match demand, and the types of housing supply don't match the needs of young adults/couples. In the 80's, even with the high interest rates, a single person earning the median wage for a 25-30 year old, could realistically buy a home with four years of saving for a down payment. In 2025, a person making the median wage for that age group would need over ten to fifteen years, with Toronto being twenty-five. Since 2015, house prices have outpaced wages by 37%, and that's just housing. Utilities, groceries, vehicles, childcare, insurance, property taxes, rental prices, everything has been getting more expensive but wages aren't keeping up. But corporate profits are fine. Our parent's homes have doubled their net worth since we were kids. Elected officials and their friends are doing just great - non partisan across all levels of government. Oil and gas executives too, despite the 'woe is me charade' Danielle puts on everytime she fucking opens her mouth. My age group has watched as everyone older got richer, and we got outbid, forgotten, and will spend our tax dollars paying off the debt incurred to fuck us over as we rent someone's investment property so they can retire in Phoenix..... My number one reason for not having kids, is because they won't have a better life than I will. Unless something changes, I don't want to have them grow up in a world full of hate and greed. I don't even want to be in that world half the time. It's not just the economy. It's the broken social contracts, it's climate change, it's war, it's fascism and white supremacy, it's crony capitalism waging a war on anything that balances out wealth. It's the wealthy who have somehow convinced half the population that the neoliberal policies that got us here are the answer to the problems they created. We are all so disenchanted with our lives, even those of us who try and make the best of it. I understand that life hasn't ever been easy for any generation, but there were always a standard of rules that held true. Work hard, save your money, be a good person, you'll be okay. My nurse friend worked overtime during the pandemic just to be laid off after and physically assaulted by some antivax lunatic. Hard work was respected and now its just exploited. Saving money only works when the goal posts stop moving, it's now just dangling a carrot in front of our faces. The only people doing well, are those willing to cross lines of morality that most of us won't, and those who started out in life before everything changed. It's not just the liberal government, anyone like the OP who thinks it's just that simple are actually part of the problem.

We cannot afford to have children in Canada anymore. My daughters would love to have kids, but a mortgage requires two incomes and daycare is a mortgage payment, plus food is so expensive. It wasn't like this before Liberals were elected. @MarkJCarney ctvnews.ca/canada/articleโ€ฆ
