Tomorrow we are @BAPM_Official conference showcasing a poster outlining the journey from unmet patient need for awareness of lactation choices after loss to the now met educational need for HCPs with a future learn course co-written with @NeoResearch_Net and parents.

The research team conducting this study are based at Newcastle Hospitals NHS Trust, & include staff from the Countess of Chester NHS Trust, Newcastle University, & other NHS hospitals. Our project is informed by discussions with bereaved parents who are part of the project team.

HCP educational resources. A questionnaire for mothers who have experienced peri-/neonatal loss is also planned to better understand women’s attitudes to and/or experience of lactation management after loss with a similar aim of improving NHS care and support in the future.

Our new paper shows the impact of being able to donate milk or not upon wellbeing. Donation can feel healing when women who want to donate have experienced baby loss, birth trauma, prematurity, perinatal illness (but not being able to do so can exacerbate) onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11…

I learnt so much in such a short time and am (even more) appreciative of the hard work that bereavement midwives do daily, to provide the best care at the worst times.

I had the privilege of spending time shadowing our bereavement midwives to gain a fuller insight in their role this week. The compassionate care provided by Lesley and Jen blew me away.
