Our friend and 18 year FWISD teacher Alé Checka got in her car Monday (5/11/26) and drove to Austin to give comments to the Texas House Education Committee on the State of Education in Texas and specifically about the takeover (and just before the takeover) of Fort Worth ISD.

I would like to know how the maybe $100 worth of text messages you sent in the SD9 race to elect @TaylorRehmetTX qualifies you to count this race as a feather in your cap of wins. Individual donors across the state and country stepped up to the plate in this historic race. Hundreds of thousands of dollars were spent by allied organizations (shout out TMP, TDP, and @votevets, among so many others) the Rehmet campaign, and county parties around Texas as we came together in this mission. THOUSANDS of volunteers recruited by the Rehmet Campaign, the @TarrantDemParty, the @Tarrantyoungdem, and all our MANY partners worked those precincts hard, for free, for months. Over a month ago in Commissioners Court, Shawn Fraraccio’s mother looked us in the eyes and said: “Please don’t let my son die in jail. He needs care, not a cage.” Her words have stayed with me every day since. Her 26-year-old son is autistic with an intellectual disability. He functions like a young child in an adult body. He spent 480 days locked inside the Tarrant County Jail not because he was dangerous, but because our system had no better answer for him. Last week, Shawn was finally moved to a state supported living center where he should have been all along. That did not happen on its own. It happened because his mother refused to give up. And because we pushed for answers and would not let this be buried. Without that fight, Shawn would likely still be in that jail cell today. I am grateful Shawn is finally where he belongs, but I am also angry. Families should not have to fight this hard against their own county government just to get a loved one the care they need. That is exactly why I am running for Tarrant County Judge. We can do better. And I will make sure we do. #AlisaSimmonsForCountyJudge #TarrantCounty votealisa.com

Big win for Texas and the Constitution. Today, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld SB 10 requiring the Ten Commandments to be displayed in public school classrooms. This decision affirms what we’ve said all along: this law is consistent with our nation’s history and constitutional principles. Texas has always led the way in defending religious liberty and the values that helped shape our country. This decision is a major victory for families, for students, and for the rule of law. Proud of the Texas Legislature for standing strong and grateful to Rep. @CandyNobleHD89 and Sen. @PhilKingTX for championing this effort.

When the Tarrant County Commissioners Court (well, three members) continuously makes choices to make OUR government less transparent, it takes the people showing up and calling them out on it. That’s what @mentack did on 4/14. The Commissioners Court belongs to the people.

Marisol Herrera and Nydia Cardenas went to the Fort Worth ISD meeting on 4/14. They wanted the board to understand how important it is to have community involvement and engagement, especially on sensitive topics like renaming Cesar Chavez Elementary School. #fortworth
