theguardian.com/australia-news… Robodebt was the worst failure of public administration in Australian history. It raised est. $1.73 bn of illegitimate debts from over 430,000 vulnerable Australians and plunged thousands of families into distress and grief. And still no real consequences.

This crackdown is very welcome. Grocery prices are putting huge pressure on 🇦🇺 households while Coles and Woolworths both make net profits over $1 billion. Aussies are paying dearly for our lack of competition. abc.net.au/news/2026-02-1…

Researchers have identified $26.3BN a year in spending that harms biodiversity. Since 2006–07, the Fuel Tax Credit scheme (a diesel rebate) has paid out $112BN & nearly $50BN to mining alone. Let’s be clear: this isn’t about farmers, small businesses, fishers or tourism operators doing legitimate off-road work. It’s about big fossil fuel companies and large miners getting a taxpayer-funded discount while nature pays the price. We should end the handouts to major polluters and put the savings into protecting and restoring nature and backing the shift to clean, reliable energy and the regional jobs that come with it. abc.net.au/news/science/2…

We must restore the public’s trust in the National Anti Corruption Commission and I have been calling for Commissioner Brereton to stand aside for more than a year. The Attorney-General has demanded an explanation from the Commissioner And now in an extraordinary turn of events the office of the inspector of the National Anti-Corruption Commission has launched a second investigation into his conduct. The Commissioner’s position is completely untenable and it’s time he did the right thing and moved on. canberratimes.com.au/story/9171105/…

Great article! This is on the same level as Robodebt. @AlboMP promised it would never happen again. The harm can be dire. He has lied. If you want people to get jobs STOP PUNCHING DOWN ON THEM, EMPOWER THEM.

“As it stands, this Government has chosen to drag the public into yet another unlawful welfare scandal, because it is unwilling to challenge private business, and Robodebt-era systems and ideologies of punishment,” writes Jeremy Poxon. Read more: theaus.in/3MbScw7

Public faith in anti-corruption institutions is fragile and hard won. Commissioner Brereton’s handling of his Defence connections, and his inability to clearly account for them over time, has weakened confidence in the NACC. He should consider stepping aside to rebuild public trust in the NACC. ✍️ @livcaisley abc.net.au/news/2026-02-0…

The Antipoverty Centre is urging the Department to start dealing “frank fearless advice” to the Government and advocate for a change in policy to include heatwaves as a genuine reason to pause mutual obligation requirements. Read more on The Point: theaus.in/4aC3sdJ

Another warning that AUKUS is an undeliverable, dumb, dangerous money pit. Caucus needs to grow a backbone and confront Marles and the US sycophants. Sacrificing our sovereignty, reducing govt services for AUKUS madness is militarism gone mad. Public inquiry now!

Why won't the government switch off the unlawful mutual obligations system? FOI documents reveal a ramshackle Department that's scrambling to cover legal messes, preserve industry profits, and pretend that punishment is policy New from me: thepoint.com.au/opinions/26020…

I work at a doggy daycare, and we have a heated saltwater pool just for dogs. They get to swim twice a week, plus therapy sessions for older pups and those recovering from surgery...
