@Skellis13 Can’t get the room at the university so I’m finding space in various Kuminkan. So pizza isn’t the same place anymore. It’s not too bad. Trying to get the same space every month is hard.

@Skellis13 Having fun at TWW now. We’re meeting in person lately.

@Skellis13 Standing up (At least in my case) I worry less about others’ reactions, so I tell people more when they’re being jerks. In the past, I’d feel the same way, but say less.

@theyokohamalife I used aruhi (aruhi-corp.co.jp -Nobody paid me for this endorsement) Flat loan has been great. I dunno how they can afford it. Variable rates seem good but BoJ already hinted they’ll let long term bond yields increase(which will tell you where mortgage rates are going)
English

@hikosaemon Sure, I guess I was trying to say that most laptops are poor substitutes. Maybe my phrasing wasn’t as clever as I’d hoped.

@hikosaemon Too few companies are profitable enough for this to work.

If the govt was serious about finally getting businesses to raise wages, they'd link company tax to cooperation on having wages match inflation, and give the company the choice between paying up in wages to workers, or to the govt (with a bit extra) in taxes.

Speaking of raising wages… Kishida asks firms to raise wages to match inflation. japantimes.co.jp/news/2022/10/0…

@yurikageyama Apple protects its pricing, so you won’t see discounts in other stores. The only discounts you can look forward to are for older models where they need to move the excess inventory.

@David_Leheny I think your joke fell flat because your language doesn’t have a word for funny

@drinkintokyo @hikosaemon If you worked that hard to get into ToDai, and you could retire at 25, you’d do it, too.

@hikosaemon First day in new grad training at a foreign investment bank in Tokyo. Japanese woman colleague hired into investment banking, a very competitive role, graduated from Todai etc. tells me within 20 minutes of meeting her that she's just there to find a husband and quit asap 😱
English

@japanese_lunch Yeah, but, um… you just said it in a large public forum. No?

@lesleyito This is well known. 1- JP is the largest creditor nation. When econ seem risky, creditors unwind debt (buy yen). 2- some foreign investors borrow yen at near zero rates and invest at high rates elsewhere. Econ seems risky, unwind the deal (buy yen). Buying yen drives cost of yen

@mizunocaitlin I have no problem with that unwritten rule. I don’t eat while walking because I know it’s frowned upon (lived in JP 23 years). It’s a politeness. The problem is that visitors don’t know it. And you can’t expect people to read minds. The street vendors should let them know.
