This bottle retailed for JPY4.62M post-tax when it was released in 2022, or around £27K at the time. £2,300 for a dram is 2-3x the full bottle price, so actually not that bad. That said, 1958 is a vintage. Nobody knows how long this liquid actually spent in a cask -- it's NAS.

"Sake will be the focus" but how many actual sake producers are involved in this project? Sure the category needs some modernization, but throwing up a cloister of Instagram cafes in Tokyo doesn't seem like the right approach.

even outside of Dekanta, and in some cases even outside of Japan. Are all these new Japanese whisky distilleries financially solvent? If it takes over half a year to pay a vendor $8K, why??

The real question here for Japanese whisky is the fallout for people who have purchased casks. Do those casks exist? As far as I know, yes, they do, for Karuizawa. That said I agree with the overall sentiment -- lots of open questions about cask purchases

A few people have sent this to me -- I don't think this is some big reveal. If you know Dekanta or Braeburn, you already know the price about dealing with either company. Dekanta was transparent about their ties to Braeburn if you dealt with them outside of B2C.
