To restore the livelihoods of the 226 traders whose businesses were affected by the fire that razed the Machakos Mitumba Market, I have issued financial support cheques to help them rebuild their businesses and resume their economic activities. I have also presented bursary cheques to 69 students whose parents' and guardians' businesses were affected by the fire, ensuring their education continues uninterrupted despite the challenges faced by their families. As an administration, we are going to build a new Machakos Mitumba Market with modern facilities that will provide a safer, more organized, and conducive trading environment. We will continue working closely with the traders to ensure the new market meets their needs, supports the growth of their businesses, and safeguards their livelihoods.

The upgraded Matungulu Health Centre, with its modern male and female wards, kitchen, laundry unit, and physiotherapy unit, is bringing essential healthcare services closer to the people while improving the quality of care, patient comfort, and treatment outcomes. We have also ensured the facility is well stocked with adequate medicines and essential medical supplies to support efficient service delivery. As an administration, we remain committed to investing in quality healthcare infrastructure and equipping our health facilities to guarantee accessible, affordable, and reliable healthcare for all residents.

Quality healthcare begins with bringing services closer to the people. The expanded Kithuani Dispensary in Matungulu West Ward is ensuring residents no longer have to travel long distances to access essential healthcare services. The facility provides outpatient care, maternity services, family planning, antenatal care, laboratory services, and a well-stocked pharmacy. It serves a catchment population of over 3,500 residents and has attended to more than 5,000 patients since becoming operational. Together, we shall continue strengthening our healthcare system as we work towards achieving Universal Health Coverage for every resident of Machakos County.

The official opening of the Kyaume Dispensary Maternity Wing marks another milestone in expanding access to quality maternal and child healthcare services. The new maternity wing will serve a catchment population of over 5,200 residents, benefiting an estimated 600 women from Sengani, Katine, Makuie, Mangauni and Manza villages. With an average of 20 deliveries every month, the facility will enhance access to skilled maternity care, ensuring expectant mothers receive safe and timely services closer to home. This investment reflects our commitment to strengthening Primary Health Care as we advance Universal Health Coverage for Mwananchi.

The Constitution envisions cooperation between the National and County Governments, and that is the spirit in which we continue to deliver projects across Machakos. Whether it is expanding access to clean water, strengthening healthcare, or investing in other essential services, every initiative that benefits our residents deserves our full support. Our priority remains clear: working with all partners to deliver quality services, accelerate development, and improve the livelihoods of every family in Machakos.

Today, I inspected the newly equipped Casualty Unit at Kangundo, which is now better prepared to handle accidents and medical emergencies along the Kangundo–Joska–Kamulu Road. This upgraded facility will significantly enhance timely emergency response, ensuring that patients receive critical care closer to home instead of being referred to Nairobi or Machakos Level 5 Hospital for emergency treatment. Strengthening emergency healthcare services is a major step toward saving lives, reducing response times, and improving access to quality healthcare for our communities.

I officially opened Ngulini Dispensary, a significant investment in expanding access to quality and affordable healthcare for our people. The dispensary will serve a catchment population of approximately 4,500 residents from Ngulini, Muisuni, Mususye, Kambai and Kithatani villages, bringing essential healthcare services closer to the community. Since beginning operations, the facility has attended to an average of 80 patients monthly in 2022 increasing significantly to an average of 500 patients monthly in 2026, demonstrating the growing demand for accessible primary healthcare.

A strong healthcare system goes beyond medical treatment, it also includes providing patients with safe, nutritious, and well-prepared meals that support their recovery. The modernization of the kitchen at Machakos County Referral Hospital marks a significant step in enhancing service delivery within our health facilities. With improved capacity and modern equipment, the facility is now better positioned to meet the dietary needs of patients, staff, and caregivers efficiently and safely. My administration remains committed to investing in healthcare infrastructure that enhances patient comfort and well-being while contributing to improved quality of care for all residents of Machakos County.

Every mother deserves the opportunity to welcome new life into the world safely. I am encouraged that this expanded facility will make essential maternal and newborn services more accessible, ensuring more women receive skilled care throughout pregnancy, delivery, and the postnatal period, while giving every child a healthier start to life.

Water is life, and access to clean, safe water is essential for healthier communities and sustainable development. The rehabilitation of the Mavindu Springs Water Project has restored a reliable water supply to about 10,000 residents and 1,000 households in Kya Ngwasi, Lower Isinga and Kalimani villages through a 3-kilometre pipeline network and two public water kiosks. The proposed Phase II expansion will extend water services to Kanzokea, Upper and Lower Unyiani, increasing coverage to approximately 1,500 households. We will continue investing in water infrastructure to expand access to safe and sustainable water, improve public health, support livelihoods, and enhance the quality of lives of our people.

I officially opened a Medical Microwave Shredder at Kangundo Level 4 Hospital, marking another milestone in our efforts to strengthen healthcare waste management across Machakos County. This state-of-the-art equipment will enable the safe, efficient and environmentally friendly treatment and disposal of infectious medical waste, significantly reducing the risk of disease transmission, protecting healthcare workers and promoting a cleaner, healthier environment. This investment enhances compliance with national healthcare waste management standards while strengthening infection prevention and control within the facility.
